Hi. Spotted this today FS on time zone. Could you please advise? The bezel, case and dial look mint. In what ways do you guys think it's been played with, if any? No movement pics. I can also see the hour chrono sub dial hand sitting ahead of 12.... Anyway, thoughts? Thank you. DT.
Kevin seems like a nice chap, never dealt with him but did exchange emails on something else. I seem to recall he has some backstory on this which explains its pristine condition. Pricey, though!
It appears to be in very nice condition, my only question would be why the lume on the hands is so much different than the dial plots... Were the hands replaced or the dial?
I know what you mean, but they never truly match though do they? I mean they're close but the 60's watches often have different colour hands to the lume plots. For me, it's the lume on the dial. Looks so fresh.... But the DON bezel? It's pretty much perfect isn't it? How did that get from 1969 to now looking like that? DT
The condition of the bezel wouldn't concern me considering how well preserved the case is, it just doesn't look like the watch saw much wear time. I agree that the hands and the plots aren't always a perfect match, but these did not come from the same watch, IMO. Dial plots turned more green, and the hands went to mustard/brown, usually everything goes one way or the other.
I assumed the dial plot lume has mostly been scraped off, but on second look, it just looks discolored in an odd way... but its hard to tell from the pictures. Hour subdial hand being offset to the right after a reset is a tell tale sign the movement needs some servicing. overall, not a fan of the dial, but overall watch and bracelet are nice, its all about price on this one.
I think that could well be all original. I had a '69 which I bought from the original owner, and the plots were very similar. From what we can see, I think that's a beautiful original Speedmaster but the price is too high.
When it first hit the market I think it was priced at $6,500. I remember thinking, well that's a bit expensive!
I hear you Dennisthemenace but to quote Spacefruit in his price guide: "DO90 bezels have hit unheard of prices in the last month. This influences the value of a watch carrying a very good one in a way that it did not before. The highest price paid for a bezel was $1800 although it was almost as new."
This watch has been on timezone for a while. Should stay there a while longer at that price If the dial lume had aged to an attractive tone, I could justify putting down extra $ (still not what he's asking).... but it's not...
