Sorry for the late answer/reply, I know I only had one hour…..
😁
So let's go through the watch that Dave has fortunately won on an auction?
He has handled a few of them, so respect for his assessment.
I have a soft spot for these 68:s, and have a couple, although not in this condition.
I usually follow Dear
@Spacefruit lovely protocol:
We have the shared pictures (not so many), and also the statement from the auction house.
And since the auction house is one of the bigger (more serious/honest/better knowledge),
I do think and hope that we can trust them.
The dial:
I cannot find any spots or blemishes on it, and the color looks like the jetblack that 68s normally have.
It would have been nice to have a few more pictures from different angles,
but we have to work with what we have.
If the watch had never had a service, we could assume that the dial doesn't have any spots/blemishes?
The few that could be found would be on the crystal.
So very good here
Lume plots:
I have tried my best to zoom in and out, and I would go for untouched, maybe not the most sexy, but all are complete,
they have some dirt/age and have a nice constant mustard color.
Depending on your taste-
Good/Very Good
Bezel:
A few small ding at the 60, and 66, but nothing that bothers, and these makes the watch more trustworthy!
So very good here
Case:
Very nice and sharp lines, lots of brushing left, and only a few dings/marks.
Very good
Case back:
Cant see it, but I would go for Very good here since the case has so nice features.
Hopefully there are no scratches from opening up the watch?
Hands:
The lume has the same color/tone as the lumeplots,
And no marks from a watchmaker, the white color is almost complete.
And looking at the hands on the sub dials, these look perfect and untouched.
Very Good here
Crown and pushers:
The crown is the flatfoot, and that is just lovely (I have had my ”beatings" regarding this…)
But the pushers looks so clean, that would make me wonder a bit regarding service?
Or could the watch have been sleeping most of its life?
Very good for these
Movement:
No pictures, which is not so normal?
But we have to trust the statement, and after a service it should also be Very Good (maybe excellent)
The crystal:
No scratches or marks, I cannot see the Omega logo, but going for original since the watch has the nice overall condition.
And we have Mr Roberts - Do you like the watch, does it make you happy?
For me - I would gladly have this watch!
I have followed a couple of auctions recently with 68:s that have had similar condition to this one, and they went for much more!
Bonus is of course the nice 1039 bracelet!
There is the question regarding the condition of the lume…
Looking at them very close/megazoom, they do have the same color/shine, and even if some of them look a bit lumpy (like som Ed Whites),
I do think that they have not been altered, and the light in the studio might make them a bit weird.
It would have been much more easy to assess them if you held the watch in your hand, but thats not always possible.
So value?
Adding up everything it would be a Very Good/Very Good plus watch.
The Speedmaster chart puts it at 8000 $ / 7400 €
But then, we have to add in the bracelet, that has a nice condition - maybe 1400-1700 $ /1300€-1600€
And since Dave kindly answered the question regarding the price of 7100 $ / 6600€,
I can only say that he did REALLY WELL!
Congrats!
