Speedmaster 145.012 Jumping Minute Issue - Anyone else?

My 145.012 minute recorder sometimes jumps to 1min when I first press the chrono start pusher. Sometimes when I reset the chrono, the minute recorder moves a hair forward on the subdail - this seems to indecate that it will jump to 1min whenever hit the chrono start pusher again. It happens often, maybe 2/5 times. Anyone else deal with this? Have any solutions recommendations? Also, know any 321 experienced watch makers in Boston? I know European Watch on Newbury exists and Paul Duggan, has anyone brought vintage watches to them?

    Thanks for any help OF

If you do a site search the question about watchmakers has been asked and answered many times.

You can now add this thread to that ever-growing list.

I did do a search, and I did see European Watch on Newbury, but haven't had great luck with them - The primary reason for a new thread was any insight into the 321 issue - as I couldn't find any info.

Do you have personal experience? I called them and they did not seem willing to service vintage - and nearly hung up on me.

Last time i spoke with EW ( a fair while back) they mentioned that 321's have to go back to Bienne. They wouldn't service.

I'd be interested to hear if I misunderstood.

I've been looking at PrecisionWatch also. Am tempted to try them out with an 1861.

There's also Swiss watches in Cambridge. Never used them - but they did respond to the query that they can service.

Thats odd. I have had 3 modern watches serviced but they were going to service a 145.012 but I sold it.

They service their own watches that the sell (not everyone obviously) and many are vintage

It's entirely possible I am the confused one. Swiss Watches in Cambridge doesnt look like the kinda place I would take a 321 but never judge a book.... etc.

Likely the sliding gear needs to be adjusted, and/or possibly the finger on the chronograph wheel. If you let the chronograph run for a full minute, does the minute counter advance right as the seconds counting hand crosses the 12?

In either case this is not a major issue to resolve, and any competent watchmaker should be able to diagnose and correct this. Much is made of the Cal. 321, but it's a simple movement in the end...

If the chrono runs for a full minute the minute counter will jump as normal at 12 (with the 2 click-click-click advance as with 321, 861, 1861)

I just got off the phone with Tony at European Watch Company. I'll try to capture the conversation:

ME: Hi, I have a 1967 Speedmaster with the 321 cal movement and...
TONY: You need to take pictures of the dial and case and send them to JoshXXXXX and do you have box and papers and...
ME: I am not looking to sell the watch.
    TONY: OH.
ME: I am having a small issue with the minute recorder subdial han..
TONY: We don't recommend touching the hands for any reason, too fragile. You can send it back to OMEGA only.
ME: I've heard that it shouldn't be a huge issue to fix.
    TONY: Too fragile, too old.
ME: Ok, thanks for your time...

Likely just an adjustment to the sliding gear then. Again not a complicated fix for any competent watchmaker.

Thank you for the info! Do you think it is hurting it to use it in the meantime?

Update: I called Paul Duggan, Precision Watch Works, and European Watch Company. They all want you to send to OMEGA. Precision Watch Works was open to a full overhaul at $1200... yikers.

Why not use the person who repairs the rest of your watches?

OK, but I see you have a Wakmann chronograph (Venus 178?) in your avatar, so I just thought you might have worked with someone previously. As has been mentioned above, it's not necessary to find a watchmaker who specializes in the cal 321.
