Guys, first of all, I am back from a lovely week in Greece with my family and relatives, we had a wonderful week with the usual sun, beach, food, brewski and family loving!

But back to my post…
I managed to follow (and bid, and even won!) some auctions while I was there, and this post regarding the movement of a watch sparked a (Dan S) fire..

So here we go:

Dear @Dan S ,
I have had some time to digest your posts regarding your opinions of me and my posts.
And TBH, when I started to read your first post (you have now edited it a few times....),
my first thought was that somebody had hijacked your account, had it been sprinkled with emojis, it must have been…😉??

I thought first that - Hey, I can't be friends with everybody!
I work in the construction business, and some guys there eat barbwires for breakfast.

But then I thought about it for a while, and that I should do something about the whole situation.
I have learned through my experience in life that some things can't just be said (written) without clarifications or explanations.
And in this case, new members like me and also first timers might get discouraged with their thoughts and questions?

I myself enjoy watches and interacting with other fellow watch lovers.
I like the search for potential watches (Bargains are the best!!), researching, asking questions if in any doubts,
and doing the auctions itself (win or lose!!).
It is very exciting/thrilling and of course very satisfying when winning.
And I also like to share with Forum members the feeling during the journey.
And there is also a bonus where everybody can see the possible current value of the watches.
I have also understood that some of the members think my posts are interesting and good entertainment,
combined with a little "how to do an auction 101"??

I have followed most of the posts done here for at least a year or more regarding Speedmasters and other brands that I find interesting, and I can't recall or remember any of these posts that received such ugly and humiliating answers from any Senior Forum members?

There are of course the comes and goes (what is my fathers cousins brothers watch worth..🙄) that get whipped…

I have always thought (and still think) that this Forum shared the common joy and feeling of watches, buying and selling them (or planing to buy/sell), assessments, showing what we have and how we got it, future plans and the normal stuff that we can chat about?

I do understand by following your posts and answers to other members on their posts that you have great knowledge about watches,
you do take lots of your time and effort to answer peoples questions, and I have received lots of help and info from you as well.

But your latest answers and comments to me felt really patronizing and humiliating, and since you have edited your posts (on this thread) more than a few times, me and my posts must really bother you?

You could have sent me a DM and we might have worked this out?

We do have lots of senior members who regularly do posts (with links) on upcoming auctions with comments, assessments etc..
The Forum even has a ”Sticky” regarding upcoming auctions on E-bay…
There is also a Swedish watchforum (Klocksnack.se), and there are daily posts on up-coming auction where the members comment on the watches regarding condition, value etc.

So I have done a compilation showing all my posts regarding auctions, with comments that could matter?

Please do me the favor (and maybe other Forum members??) and give me an honest answer -
What exactly has bothered you so much?
I do appreciate an answer since you have publicly flogged and whipped me here on the Forum??
And you never know, I might learn a thing or two (just like with watches..)??

I’ll leave it to you two to work this out and for my part can appreciate a discussion of a piece after an auction is over. Just to respond to the quoted part of your post:

-The senior members who discuss upcoming auctions in detail do that on the big ones, Philips for example. Everybody in the scene is aware of them, they get a lot of publicity, it’s a completely different story than a Speedy that gets listed by a small auction house somewhere with bad pics and no description. This is where a bargain can be found - unless 50 other collectors are pointed in the same direction.

And regarding the eBay thread: Check the watches recommended there. It’s 99.9% entry level pieces, you won’t really see nice EWs or 2998s, well-preserved 50s Constellations or the likes.

You obviously deserved it. We’re on a watch forum, discussing obsolete luxury items whose importance ranks up there with issues like global warming, political unrest, and economic instability. Your behavior regarding auctions and what you post related to such is VERY important. Don’t screw up again!

Wow. I didn't even think this could be a potential problem. If I had found some obscure listing/auction that I couldn't grab for some reason, I would have thought I was doing the forum/ members a good turn by posting it here.

I was thinking if a auction is obscure that means, on an average, most members here are not aware of it and only a few are. So if there is a post here pointing to it then it benifits most members and inconvenience only a few? Doesn't the greater good take preponderance?
Yeah I understand it will drive the prices up. But surely not as high as the larger auctions with big budget for publicity and higher fees? So still potentially benifit a larger cohort of members here get a better deal.
And even if a member makes a obscure auction you were eyeing public isn't it a " oh shoot, just my luck" moment not a call out publicly/humiliate the OP moment?

Also about the one of the most prolific thread here and one of my favourites - Ebay listings. So the entry level pieces don't matter? By that line of thought, Won't there be members eyeing those too. If they are eyeing entry level pieces surely the small price fluctuations caused by advertising them matter to them? This in a international forum right. Entry level in some parts of the world is luxury level in others.

That said I fully understand the point of view mtv and dan S made. That's a higher level of thinking and sophistication/?gentlemanness I wouldn't have figured on my own. Well everyday we learn and better ourselves right? If this is expected of members, I think it should be in the rules or atleast in the guidelines/ guidance threads for newbies. And also under what amount they don't matter.

I truly feel for OP here. I have a feeling a bit of his time? Vacation in Greece was weighed down by this. It would have for me if I were in his shoe (don't ask me how I know).

Sir, YES, Sir!

Fortunately I didn't have coffee reading your post, it would have landed right on my desk!
Extremely amusing and made my day!
We have to sometimes focus on the bigger picture, and realize that there is a world out there...

Cheers!

Thanks for those thoughtful words!
And to be honest, this debacle is a drop in the ocean comparing to spending a week with your relatives...!
Who want's to eat and drink, what and when and where....and so on...😁
For a whole WEEK!!
