Been offered this speedy by a guy I've traded with before. He's asking £2900. Which will include the original hands. He says it was serviced 6 months ago. Any thoughts on how much to restore original hands and what it maybe worth after. He's askin
None I'm afraid but the guys a private seller and I don't think he'd have the confidence to take off the back himself especially after the recent service.
I'd take a chance for that price. If you can see the movement and/or he can provide documentation of the service, so much the better.
Those could well be the original hands, particularly if this is an early .003, which it appears it may be, judging by the silver tension ring. I think everything on here appears correct. The pushers might be later service replacements, but they also may be original… It's just a little hard to tell from these photographs. The crown looks original and correct, the bezel looks original and correct, and overall all the parts appear to look consistent with each other with respect to their condition/wear and tear being in a similar state. I'd say go for this if you wanted, subject to the stipulation that you can have it open by a qualified watchmaker and have the inside inspected. You would be looking for general condition of the movement, serial number (one that is relatively early in the production sequence), which would be consistent with these alpha/dauphine hands, and an internal case back engraving, which I would expect to be marked -63. cheers, Mark
Hands are probably a replacement as the minute hand looks just a bit short in these clearer photos. Even if that's the case though still looking like a good purchase.
I'd be pleased too! Should tell the seller he can spend part of the 2900 quid on a camera and a book about how to use it. Given what Mike mentioned about the hands being off a Seamaster you might want to see about sourcing some nicely aged white stick hands for it to replace the alphas.
Even better for the price, might still want to get someone you trust to look at it though, a lot of Speedmasters that people say have been serviced haven't really been done well.
