Speedie FOIS short strap or additional hole

Hello,
I just got a new FOIS on the black leather strap for my son. His wrist is on the smaller side and he would either need an extra hole - or a shorter strap. I read somewhere that Omega may sell shorter versions of the original straps. I don’t want to go third party as the black one with the yellowed stitching is just a perfect match for the watch.
I bought it through an OB but they’re quite a distance away and I haven’t heard back yet from them.

Another alternative would be to do it ourselves with an appropriate leather punch. Anyone know what the right size would be?

I know that Omega stock longer straps as I typically get them for myself, not sure about shorter but it might be possible.

I just use some cheapos like this to add holes when needed for family members, I’ve got a couple different sizes and they’re pretty easy to use

As for the size of the leather punch, if it has a pin & buckle, then the hole diameter is 1.5 mm.

I like these, much more compact than the multi-size hole punch I use.

I think most modern straps have 2.0mm holes, vintage in my experience is 1.5mm. Is the latter specific to current Omega straps?

IMO the 2 mm holes are for deployants but will obviously work for the pin as well.

Omega do shorter versions of their straps. I'm wearing a rallye one now on my speedmaster

To add I think they may also do slightly shorter deployant clasps also.

At the price of the straps, I would hesitate to add additional holes as any mistake and ugh. I would buy an off brand in this case. $100 or so any you will have the original strap to put onto the Speedy when he gets older.

It seems unusual for someone to buy a kid a speedy. I would probably have gone to the Swatch Omega moon watch until he grows up (I'm assuming the small strap means young lad).

I see that it is tough to buy a steel band as well. I was looking for a second band for my White Moon Watch.

Given the value of the watch I'd get straps custom made, ie, Tuns Store, for only $40 to $60 US, depending on the leather, with lots of customization via the Notes box or email; or Delugs for better quality.

Honestly, I do not know. But Omega straps are so expensive (I think a replacement steel band is $1000). I would just buy a nice band and save the original strap till the kid is older.

My boss had an Omega Seamaster. Sadly, it kept falling off the strap after a few years wearing it. It was a wedding gift from his wife (I did not know spouses bought each other wedding gifts, where did that tradition originate?).

I like my steel band. But I also like the leather. I just could not see myself poking a hole into the band. (I don't even do this with cheap belts; I've lost a lot of weight in the last few years.)
