    Hello!

This is my very first post on this wonderful forum! I have found a nice watch but cannot exactly determine what kind of Seamaster it is. All i know that i love the look of it and saw a similar piece in the DeVille collection of user WYO_watch.

The owner cannot open the case since it's a front loading piece. On the back is an engraving which dates back to 1974. But i thought they made Seamaster DeVille's up to 1967'ish? I also think that the crown is not original nor is the band.

My question, is it a nice original piece? What do you guys think? Should i buy it as my first Omega?
And why can't i seem to find any information on the internet on this particular dial?

    Thanks in advance!

It's a seamaster. Not a speedmaster. I've never seen this dial before. And the caseback misses the hippocampus logo. But that I've seen before. I think mainly on the US collection. I think the SMDV were also made in the 70's.

1971 Zenith Watches was purchased by The unrelated Zenith Radio Corp. Zenith by 1974 was making the bulk of its money on Color TV’s. Magnavox’s primary product at the time? Color TV’s.

I learned recently here on OF that SM/SMDVs were sometimes sold without the hippocampus for engraving purposes. And yes, they were made up until the early 1970s.

Apologies to OP: I’m far too new to comment on this dial. I’ve not seen one like it before, either.

Yes that is true. It is a presentation piece. I thought they turned the name from SMDV to just DV begin 70's. Could be wrong though.

To put your minds at ease with the dial - there is no doubt in my mind it is original. This was one of my first deviles I purchased a while back. I liked it so much I ended up buying another. Both presentation pieces, both from the 70s - if not both ‘74. I sold the piece on the right an original crown for $750 + shipping to a collector in Dubai.
