I might have been mixing decades when adding the gold mesh, that would be more acceptable in the 80's . . .

 

It was the same on my 1973 Constellation and a lot of others I've seen

 

Despite the poor lighting in this pic that makes it look pinkish the yellow gold mesh fits my 7.5" wrist comfortably, it has 4 micro adjust positions on the clasp
