I'll start by saying I'm not really a fan of straps on the Space Compax. Just my personal preference, mainly because I think the original bracelets are so darn cool. I have a Space Compax Mk2 which wants an original bracelet. As we all know, these are not easy to find (just lost out on an eBay auction for a correct JB Champion... sigh). I know that I'll eventually find one, but in the meantime, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for other makes that used a very similar style and size bracelet? For example, I've seen 20mm Certina JB Champion bracelets that are close in size but the style ain't quite right (see photo). Or, the Zodiac GMT/Sea Wolf JB Champion is very similar in style (see photos) but the endlinks are too small at 17.5mm. Or perhaps there are bracelets that aren't similar at all in style (Oyster? Jubilee?) that still wear well on the Space Compax. Thoughts? Pictures? Suggestions? Thanks!
It is difficult to put it into words ... There is another on the Bay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322441103888?_trksid=p2060353.m1431.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:ITPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network but it only has one end link that looks dubbious (does not fit properly). Finding the right end links is just as big an issue !
Personally, if it's not a UG Gay freres bracelet, I wouldn't fit it, especially a bracelet for another brand. It will look odd and out of place. Leather bands don't look too bad https://instagram.com/p/BJT9shKA1No/ Oyster? https://instagram.com/p/BJuFTS7B3LZ/ 70s UG bracelet https://instagram.com/p/BOPtqThjX1J/ And the late Noodia, showing that you just can't beat a GF on this watch https://instagram.com/p/5un8hlPQlp/
ThanksHeuerLoon. Yes, you can't beat a GF bracelet... But I'd take a JB Champion too! The oyster is so ... Rolex but I still kinda like it
Much better than any after market option. It's a 70s bracelet, so not period correct for the 1st execution. It certainly beats a jubilee bracelet
Thanks HeuerLoon. To be clear and per above, It's for my mk2 / 2nd execution Space Compax ... So I'm pretty sure it's the correct bracelet.. and if it's not THE correct bracelet then it's period-correct.
It's actually early 60s bracelet, that's the logo from 1960-1964. Not the most attractive logo IMO, but I think it might be an earlier year than your Space-Compax. Definitely much better than an after market bracelet!
yes. thanks! Interesting that the same bracelet is on another Mk2 / 2nd execution space compax on thebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-G...479219?hash=item25cce6f9b3:g:WMEAAOSw241Ycvx3Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network it will also be interesting / informative to see if the bracelet has a date stamp... regarding your assertion that the logo is from 1960 - 64.. that seems inconsistent with what i've come across. i am not an expert on this brand, but i've seen this logo on some very 1970s-looking bracelets / watches here -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/26mm-Univer...901601?hash=item5696d7a221:g:BPYAAOSw32lYz~A8Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-G...154042?hash=item5444f4e93a:g:kmsAAOSwx6pYqwSrPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network still learning so if anyone has more info do tell!! thanks!!
The tuning fork dial is a later UG logo, as well as the box on the bracelet. Probably some old 1960s inventory that got marketed in the 70s.
I picked up a loose case and bracelet identical to that combination a few years ago for a pittance, for what it's worth. I'd say it's kosher but what's slightly fascinating is that the endlinks on both the one you've quoted and on mine are not the same. Edit: This didn't come out the way it was intended. I mean that the endlinks on the Ebay sale linked to and the one that I bought appear to have different end links at 6 & 12.
Not sure if this info will help but maybe another piece to the puzzle. I have this bracelet which came on a 60s tri compax which the seller claimed was original to the watch. No date stamped on the bracelet.
Thanks all for the helpful replies. Always nice to learn a bit more about these BTW -- Dibs on the bracelet(s) should you ever decide to part with them!
