So as many of us live in paradise, except for the fact all watch news and special releases happen when we are asleep....

So I’ll post the answer to this in 24 hours, but there is a very interesting tribute to the Space Program in Long Beach. Something everyone has seen if they have been near the water in Long Beach but not oddly unknown. I’ve a feeling that many of us on the forum have seen it over and over and had no idea it’s there.

If you know it post yes, if you find it say you figured it out.

I accidentally noticed it a few months back and figured this was a good time to post it.

Glad I'm not driving through that area today. I'd ramble around until I found it...

If you've driven the area, when I say what it is, you will be surpised.

I don't know about the LB gem, but every time I drive past MainPlace mall in Santa Ana, all I want to do is fondle the Endeavor nose...

Now I'm intrigued.

Not sure if anyone has been past SpaceX, in El Segundo. They have a Falcon 9 standing in front of offices.

Well... Those of us in SoCal most likely have seen these Islands repeatedly esp if you ever go down to Downtown Long Beach, or watch the Grand Prix.

Here is the map... Notice there are 4 islands, and all 4 are tributes to NASA Astronauts with an unfortunate distinction... They are Oil pumping stations.

I give you the THUMS Islands, aka the Astronaut Islands.

This is White Island a pretty decent example of what they look like.

On another interesting note... This is exactly where the H.1 Hercules flew, aka the Spruce Goose. She was moored here for decades as well.

I knew you Californians drive on the wrong side of the road but never knew you also write backwards. What's this "Island Grissom" instead of "Grissom Island"? Shouldn't you be in Beach Long then? 😁

Funny thing is when you posted this it took me about 5 minutes to figure it out (I think a long time for me)...While an hour earlier I was jogging on the beach counting the ships parked beyond these very islands. Whenever Omega has a new speedmaster release I think about apollo 1
