Did you guys see that Sotheby's will hold a special thematic auction on rare Omega Speedmasters to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11?

See here on Sotheby's directly, and also e on Hodinkee.

    When: July 19th.
    Description:
Sotheby’s is pleased to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing with a carefully curated sale of incredible Speedmasters, entitled Omega Speedmaster: To the Moon and Back, Celebrating 50 years since Apollo 11. The Omega Speedmaster is arguably one of the most iconic sports watches to ever come to market, and was the leading choice of astronauts for more than five decades.

Highlights of the sale include two Reference 2915-1s and an Alaska III Prototype. The reference 2915 was the first Speedmaster model ever created. The dial configuration, the tachometer scale engraved into the metal bezel, the renowned caliber 321, the lack of crown guards, the applied Omega logo, and the large “broad arrow” hour hands are all distinguishing traits that differentiate this Speedmaster from its successors. The “Alaska III” Speedmaster was made for NASA’s Space Shuttle program in 1978. The project was made to incorporate an anti-reflective crystal and easily legible dial. The black dial is specific to this watch, featuring luminous tritium, radial counters.

These pieces are complemented by a tightly curated selection of Omega Speedmasters all vetted by the manufacture themselves. For decades, the Speedmaster has signified the kind of quality and reliability that has made it the only designated timepiece fit to wear on the moon. This dedicated Omega sale is an incredible way to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the event that defined a generation, while paying homage to the watch that helped NASA accomplish missions for over half a century.

6 2915s against 4 105.003s? And the 003s don't look too spiffy to me considering the estimates, the soft grey dial looks a bit tired. Is a 003 in any state or shape considered rare now?

    Some lovely watches.
The engraving on lot 4 (2915) though.
“Yeah. I’ll just pop that there. All lined up neatly.”

    Wow... exciting.

But only two golden BA145022-69. Would have expected more in that auction.

You’ll be busy updating speedmaster101 after this auction I bet.

And Lot 27 looks exceptional. By rights it should set a record for the reference.
