Someone splash cold water on my face (polished 166.010)

Now that I've realized the severe extent to which US tarrifs on Swiss imports limit the pool of watches available to me, I've been feeling a bit desperate and I can feel my newly-learned standards slipping.

A reputable private seller just sent me these pictures. Price is $930 USD total. Case looks pretty polished I think - some vertical brushing on lug sides remains but not much. Super clean hands and dial though, and I believe some of the best timegrapher data I've seen on an unserviced example...

Can I still really do better as an American buyer in September 2025?

LA is set incorrectly. Should be 49, that’ll bring down the amplitude. Polishing isn’t overly extreme, we’ve seen worse. The spotting on the dial would put me off much more.

Not a 930$-example in my book, especially given how common those are.

I certainly wouldn’t call that dial super clean and wouldn’t be falling over myself to pay $900 for it.

Looks about average, not bad. Trade policy and currency values will certainly have short term effects on the market. I think you need to do your own research and decide.

As an American buyer in the short term you might not be able to do better, but in a month or two possibly you can do a lot better, that would give me some pause as it’s not a great deal by any means and chronometer rated 168.024s go for about that money on eBay in nice shape.

Shouldn't it have the scalloped crown?
I know most 166.010 have the "thick" crown, but I've been told they are replacement.

I think it depends on the production year. The correct crown for those from the early ’60s should be the thin scalloped type. But from 1965 onward, I believe the “thick crown” would also be correct. Take the 168.024 for example: released in the mid 60s, and it only used the thick crown version.
