Earlier today I was bidding at an auction held in Ipswich, England.

This is what I won at a fairly decent price:

The one I was really interested in was this vintage Railmaster:

I had to give up early on this one as, sadly, my pockets weren't deep enough. I posted this in a separate thread and a couple of you estimated this at 5.5 GBP. Well, you weren't far off....this bad boy fetched six thousand. Add the fees and the buyer will be paying the princely sum of £7200.

 For a 2990? Man, the price list in my head is badly in need of an update!

If you plan to win such a watch you should:

    1) never post this watch on the OF like you did

    2) keep silent and hope that fellwow collectors snooze or don´t find an auction held in a small auction house with mixed offers -
watch auctions are always on the radar of collectors...

    3) do your due diligence yourself or ask seasoned members of the OF via PM only and also let them know that you intend to bid - maybe you can kindly ask them to withhold with a bid - meanwhile before the auction starts

    4) hope (and pray if you believe in god) that you will have good luck

maybe this might help you to win a desired watch in the RM or Speedy category

    just my 2 cents

Listening to the auction, it sounded like there was a ton of interest - opening bid was £3,000.

The watch sold to someone in the room.

The watch is still a nice piece. Congratulations on that one. I like it. I've found that the Arabic numerals are easier to read.

The Railmaster is nice but too rich for my blood too.

@Mr Bing or at the very least, only post a photo - not the link.

I don't know about anyone else, but if someone asks my opinion on a watch that I haven't already seen & decided to pursue, I consider it "dibsed" by them, and won't bid or offer until I know for sure that they have decided to pass on it. I should note though, I wouldn't expect everyone else to be so scrupulous...
