A lot of telemetre scales, and apparently Christies have found a way to get extracts from the Universal archives. Hmmm.
To be honest, I personally do not like them that much. The inner scales destroy the dials for me, and the Cartier one is a bit tired... Most interesting for me is the first one, but not sure about the subdials... Has the last one been restored?
Cartier went unsold last year at Christies NY and in many a opinion not good. The rest seem genuine, with possibly the exception of the stainless steel chronograph with a possibly NOS dial.
I like them all, unfortunately they won't be affordable... But the first one with fat lugs seems to be a redial imho.
This one look really great The price will be great too IMHO ! Both dial and case are in top condition ... And telemeter scale are really a plus to me
Great looking watches which obviously suited the era they were aimed at , but far too complicated for me to possibly understand . But saying that, breitling seems to still be doing well out of the navitimer so obviously my opinion is in the minority. Which just proves I know nothing about watches
Those dials are all replacements, A lot of them were available loose for a long time from a supplier in switzerland, and now they are appearing in watches as replacements for the originals. Another example:
Is Mr. Wind still with Christies, I am quite interested to know how exactly the extracts were obtained?
Since Universal Geneve gave you some options on dial and hands , to me unless you know the history of the ownership, all UG may be Frankens ? Most mint dial UG you see probably were not hardly worn and maybe was in a dry climate and or UG service dials installed at some point, IMHO !
I would not say that a correct, genuine dial replacement constitutes a "Franken". It is not original, but correct.
We don't know that it is correct, if correct means as it might have left the factory - that is, if this dial was ever fitted to this case. But that is unknowable with UG. To quote another member:
