There is a story in Brittens Old Clocks and Watches and their Makers about a French nobleman of the 16th century. His name was Filomon Robertet. He was treasurer to three French kings. He was a watch collector. He died, leaving his collection of approximately one dozen watches to his wife. Rumour has it she spent the rest of her life winding up his estate!

This is an excerpt from Brittens about his collection. Quite an impressive variety for a guy who died in 1532.
