Hi guys, I am new here. I have been trying to decide on what kind of speedmaster I should go for vintage or new?
My current thoughts are to go vintage and then later on save up for a new version as a daily wearer.
The first time I saw a picture of a speedmaster I thought that was the most elegant watch I have ever seen. Didn't know anything about the moon history behind it but I said I will only ever have one good watch and this will be it.

So I've come to this point where I may have found a 1967 speedmaster in a 321 movement ref 145.012. This also seems to be on a 1170 bracelet. I am not sure about the bracelet at all and was under the impression it would be something like a 1039? ( correct me if I am wrong please )
The serial (on the inside of the movement?) Looks to start off as a 13903079X? I would have thought it would be the 25XXXXX range.

The price is around $5,000 AU in a (2) fine condition.
I tend to see most other sellers selling this watch for around $10,000 and up, and usually around the $10 to 13k mark on condition 1 (mint) watches, so Im not sure if the pricing on this watch seems odd or is correct.

Its from an Italian dealer that seems to be known and reputable (EDIT) (as what I have read on the net of other people, I dont know if this is true and I dont have an idea about this at all so if Italy and dealer = scam I dont know, dont tear me a new one for not knowing what countries are dodgy and scammers)

I have some pictures of this watch if anyone can help and give me some advice.

Now not to sound paranoid but I would hate for this to be a good deal and a great watch after searching to have this snipped by someone. I am hopping this is not an issue on this site?

    Thanks in advance.

The reason this is cheaply priced is because it is a collection of parts.

    Movement from the 50's
Modern service dial, hands and bezel
    Modern 1171 bracelet

It's a Franken. So much for the reliable dealer.

I see, I appreciate your help and response. I just read from other peoples anecdotal experience that this was a reliable dealer. Not from my own first hand accounts. That's why I have posted this here. I did ask the dealer if the watch was all original but was told the watch was as it was described on the selling page so that made me want to come here to check it out.

I am guessing that a vintage mint / fine watch with a 321 movement will cost around the $10k mark?
I really do like that applied Omega logo on the dial over the painted logo :/

I knew that was too good to be true. But better that than get ripped off. Thanks

Also do you mind pointing out what things you saw that allowed you to notice that its a Franken?

I noticed that dial seems pretty good, lume is not missing, saw that it did not say "T Swiss Made T" etc
I guess little things are hard to notice for me.

    Is that an impossible contradiction?

I dont know, I have no idea, its what I read about with people visiting and doing business with this shop and what has been written on the net about them.

Well this shop is already a charlatan simply offering the watch at all, and then to point you to the description in response to the originality question, well they might as well be auctioneers.

And you know what we all think of them.

Well yes I did seem odd so that why I checked here. I am not someone that knows a great deal about watches. I just saw a speedmaster and wanted it. Especially the vintage 321 movements. If it comes down to it where I cant find a nice vintage one I will just get a beater 1861 new from Omega and be done with it. But I know you will all shun and banish me from here for that new movement :D

1861 is no slouch, though it's also not a 321.

If you want a 321, slow down a bit, stick around here, read threads on speedies, study speedmaster101.com and maybe pick up a copy of Moon Watch Only. You should be able to identify all the things that Gemini4 pointed out before you spend thousands on a watch..

Best of all, enjoy the ride!

    (oh, and nice avatar!)

Speedmaster101.com tells me anywhere from about $3200 for a crusty 145.012 to over $100K for a nice 2915.
