I saw that over the weekend as well, it's no joke. Living in the DC area, couple of years ago they had chewed through a good portion of my wiring harness on my SUV. Caused $3K damage, got it fixed only to go through the whole ordeal a month later.
They were 'nesting' and once they're in there it's tough to get rid of them as they like their own smell. No, insurance did not cover the costs, I eventually had to garage the car for a long period to prevent the problem of re-occurring.
They would appear to be a bit green in the photo. Of course I'm in the south so may have an altered perception of when walnuts appear ripe. Our nuts, mostly in the form of pecans don't start coming off until mid November.
Or, do the nitwit squirrels begin storing green nuts?
