    Hi,
I've got a friend of a friend that from time to time comes across all kinds of various things and now he came across this Omega that he put up for sale. I'm thinking that I maybe should buy it. It's not the typical Omega or watch for that matter that I normally buy but something feels unusual about this one.

Is it a 168.007? I haven't seen this dial before so is this legit? Should it have a bezel like all other 168.007?

I hope that I with your help can bring clarity to this :) Thanks.

Dial and watch look legit, but not sure about the ref number. Do you have inside pictures?

Sorry I don't. The person having the watch doesn't have the correct tools for opening it.

Is it cheap? If not then some minimal effort is certainly justified.

It's on auction so it could be a bargain.. I could guess that the market value is around 2k usd? Or maybe more since this is quite uncommon.. I'll wait and see how it goes :) I hope to get some more information.

That seller has dealt in watches since before you were born.

I would be really, really surprised to see that that Connie fetched a penny less than its fair market value.

But you can always hope for a miracle ;)

Are you sure this is a cal. 561 non-quick-set Ref. 168.007? The only Ref. 168.007 that I could find is this one, which looks totally different:

The above watch dates from 1962, which is a bit before they started using the "OM" for gold dials. Something is telling me the example you're looking at could be one of the later C-cases with a cal. 1001 or 1011 movement. The dial certainly looks from that 1970's time period, but I really can't tell for sure.

Not enough information to make an informed decision.

I'm just guessing. These Constelations aint easy at all so a guess was the 168.007 but I'm aware that it's the wrong reference.
I will look in deeper on the cal 1001 and 1011 and see what I can find. Thanks :D

This looks to me to be a 168.0056 with a cal 1011, to answer your question about calibre. It could also be the 'De Luxe' version because of the 18k gold dial.

Most important that you have the opportunity to inspect the condition of the movement with this calibre, because, if neglected, these fastbeat movements can be problematic.

For my money, I would be looking for a 168.009/17. Even in gold they tend to be under-valued IMO.

    Cheers

    Desmond .

Ive read a little about that reference and if its the correct reference the bezel is missing? I've seen a C-cased seamaster without the bezel and it looks quite familiar to the one above.

It can be a BA 168.0053 with a cal 1001.

OP's watch seems to have been so heavily polished in the front, so that the bezel is gone

Bingo! It's a 168.0053 in 14K and this reference doesn't have a bezel. OP's watch has a pretty decent gold case but watch out for the movement's condidtion.

Got a picture now that confirms the reference. It's a 168.053 with cal 1001 and serial 3,3m.
Thanks for all the help so far :D

Regarding the movement, is it hard to find parts or what should I look out for regarding this 1001?

Desmond has an article on that, too.

These movements can be a bit problematical, but a good watchmaker should be able to sort it out.

    @Archer, are you there?
