I was looking at a Duck for commuting work a few years back. The 600 Monster. When the dealer found out I was going to drive 30 miles a day in city traffic with it 5 days a week he told me to buy a Japanese bike because (and I quote) you'll be replacing the bottom end every year.

He claimed the extra idling of city traffic would kill the crank annually. So I bought a Kawasaki...

and replaced cams every 12000 miles instead.

Now I have a 500 Piaggio... 26000 miles on it so far without trouble... I like that.

If you are replacing cams on a modern Kawasaki every 12,000 miles something is far from right.

When I had the Kawasaki the shop I worked for had an extensive tool room attached to it. When the first cams toasted we ran them through the tool room and found they were soft, they had completely blown the hardening.

The dealer went after Kawasaki but they said it was normal wear. Imagine, the original tires and brakes were still in place and the cams are worn over 1 millimetre. When the dealer arrange for me to talk to the technical rep the guy was almost choking while he repeated that line of shit.

Needless to say, of the thirty bikes I've had, there's never been a second Kawasaki.

My two bikes. M821 and a modified F3 and my previous Monster.

I’ve had 3 Ducati’s all Monsters. Currently on the 821. I may be selling it this year though. I fancy a 1098S though..

My mate has the V4. I tried it and it’s very, very good. Just very, very expensive.

Be very interested to know when it was and what bike it was. 70s and 80s there quite a few camshaft issues. Perhaps the most publicised was the Honda VFs. Early GPZ900s also had an issue caused by oil feed. Smaller kawasakis were affected Z250s and Z400? I had a few Kawasakis, a ZZR600 and a GPZ900 amongst others. I still have one a KLX250.

A mate of mine has a 2015 Multistrada, The first one was replaced free of charge after 6 weeks due to numerous problems, the worst being a bent frame! They had built a bike around a damaged frame and used washers/spacers to get the headlight to sit right. He was offered a replacement frame but rejected it. The second one has been bad luck accident-wise as he has fallen off it three times - all at low or zero speed. The first time was when he turned up at a posh hotel with his girlfriend on the back, put his foot down, slipped on some gravel, the bike went over and they both came off. To make matters worse, it was still running in first gear but they couldn't hear it as they both had music playing in their matching Bluetooth helmets (why don't the shut off when they go over?) and when he picked it up, it took off with him trying to hold it and it went down on the other side and started going round in circles! This was less than a week before we were going to lake Garda and it did a fair bit of damage so we had to gaffer tape both hand lever knuckle covers which housed the indicators plus the brake and clutch master cylinder reservoirs. The Ducati dealer didn't have the parts in stock but ordered them and our wives were meeting us out in Garda halfway through our trip so his girlfriend managed to pick up the parts and bring them out with her and we fitted them on at the hotel. The other two times he forgot to put his feet down when he stopped suddenly and tipped it over. It was a bit of a case of 'All the gear, no idea' but I think he's mastered it now!

Really like the MV Wildfire ! Yeah the V4 looks crazy and I can't imagine how fast it is .. it's sometimes too fast with my 'small' 696 so ....

That was a brilliant post @Steve Essex . I think after the second time I would be giving serious consideration to something with 4 wheels.

Thanks! I got her new and have steadily been improving it, I added the forged wheels this year with the custom paint job (did it myself) after it came off the road due to a "race expert" not tightening up the slipper clutch springs properly and the clutch lunching the engine. I do it all myself now. Just got to put my new M4 calipers on when I get around to getting new lines this year.

I'm loving BMW, very retro, especially in that colour, looks in great condition. Is the 914 yours too?

We did think of suggesting a pair of child's stabilisers but we thought that wouldn't go down too well.....

You could have tactfully suggested a sidecar for his bird.

I think she made a few suggestions of her own to him when they were dumped right outside the 'Orangery' at the hotel, full of people having tea. :whistling:
