·Dear All,
I became a watch enthousiast only a few years ago. Prior to that, I was looking at watches with interest but nothing more .. I bought an Omega Seamaster DeVille in 1967 and then later.. much later I got myself a Rolex and a Cartier .. I kept both 20 years and sold them for some dumb reason I cant even remember !
Then in 2013 I got out of a drawer a watch that my father gave me in the early ‘60ties : a Doxa chronograph he bought in 1945 upon his return from Germany as a POW.
He swapped that Doxa for a military issued Tissot chronograph a few years later and eventually gave me the Doxa.
I weared it a bit and put it aside for more than 45 years !
That watch was the start of my “collection”, I got it serviced (Valjoux 22, column wheel) and started looking at vintage Doxa watches.
I bought a few.
I never acquired another Doxa chronograph although I would like to, but prices have gone crazy nowadays !
So, I bought inexpensive vintage watches, trying to get different models, representative of the brand.
Each watch was immediately serviced. They all work fine.
Ofcourse, this led to other acquisitions that I will show perhaps in some other thread : mainly some vintage Omega, a serie of vintage Zenith and an ensemble of chronographs various origins.
For the time being, here are a few images of the Doxa watches.
First is the chronograph .. its value lays in the fact that watch never left the family since 1945. The watch was produced in 1943. I saw many many similar Doxa chronographs since but at insane prices (up to 4,000.€) .. ofcourse, one does not know if the sellers could find buyers at that level of prices .. !
Diameter is 35,80mm
Next a jumbo Doxa from the '50ties, diameter 37,19mm, cal. 1147
The following is a square watch, dim. 30x32mm, serial 4209
Another jumbo, dia. 37,06, also from the '50ties
Then a rectangular art deco type and a Synchron,
Again a jumbo
and several more damaged
a brown dial I did not observe, on the pics, was so dull probably redialed
A lady size, I did not buy it, was part of a lot ..works fine but is not really nice !
I dont follow Doxa watches anymore .. the nice ones (chronographs) are too expensive I find. I went onto Zenith, Omega and chronographs of various origins, but always vintages.
I thank you for your attention,
Cheers,
