I inherited my father's watches, one of which is an Omega f300 Electronic. I do not know its age, although I'm sure it is at least 30 years old, probably more.

I had the back removed and on the inside is stamped 18K, and other information, such as a serial number. I've been assuming it's gold plated and probably not worth repairing (the date no longer advances). However, it seemed wise to try to check on this.

Doing a web search did not reveal much, if any, useful information about the f300 series.

    Thank you,
    Richard

Bottom line, if it is stamped 18k chances are it is solid gold. If it was gold capped or plated it would say so.

Melt for the head would probably be under $400 (I would be surprised if it has more than 1/3rd of a troy ounce of pure gold, plus for scrap you would be lucky to get 90% of melt).

Without pictures nobody can tell if it is worth saving or not.

Your watch is on the second page of old Omegas, the other member kindly and generously posted. Your watch has correct hands etc but the wording is all in the wrong place on the dial. (look at the 70s advert.) Where did your father or was it uncle buy the Omega? Could it of been redialled or worse?? I hope I am wrong. At this early stage my suspicion is the watch has been redialled at some stage.

Are you not supposed to have Constellation, chronometer first and Omega electric f300HZ at the bottom for that reference on page two 198003?

I only responded for the benefit of the original poster. Your uneducated comments are disturbing...you should "do your homework" before you
    make them!:whipped:

Are you referring to the image labeled BA1980003?

I regret that I have no concrete background information on this watch. It might have been a gift. However, if my father bought it, there would be a reasonable possibility that he purchased it while he was stationed at several countries in Europe. I'm not sure when we moved back to the U.S. (I was in college and the folks were still in Germany). Possibly as early as 1972.

    Thank you,
    Richard

Your such a stuck up idiot Hijak! You forget people are learning and are treating this as a hobby not a job or business. I did do some homework and have seen pics of this reference and looked as best as I could at the old Omegas picture and gave initial thoughts and said "I hope I am wrong" for the benefit of the OP. It is people like you that put of new people off this forum.

Hello Richard, Please disregard Patricks comments, he knows not what he speaks. Your watch looks totally original to me and in fact it has the OM on each side of the "Swiss Made" at the bottom of the dial confirming the dial is solid gold as well. You have a very nice watch there, what a nice heirloom watch!

If you are still learning then you should not be telling new members that you think their watch is a redial and will no longer respond to you if you insist on acting like a child!::screwloose::

I said " I hope I am wrong" I was not trying to put the OP off. Now other people have confirmed the watch is ok, I am sure the dial is original and am pleased about that. To the OP beware of people on the forum they can be good to you one day and be your enemy the next. It can be a great place to be and an absolute hell hole at times also.
