Note: please read the thread as there are questions about this piece. Therefore I am selling as is for $700

This appears to be a pretty rare configuration as I looked for similar dials but have not found one.

Dial: stunning with lovely and even patination. the one flaw is the missing numeral 1 at the 14 position. see pics.
original hands and crown

Case: has most probably seen a polish but fat with good contours.

Crystal: do not know if original as I don't see an Omega symbol in the center

Movement: 30t SC. I timed it yesterday and it lost 40 seconds over 18 hours.

full disclaimer: a friend showed a picture of the movement to his watchmaker who said:
“Moisture exposure, rust, oxidation on the center wheel, rhodium plating are coming off, no incabloc on balance wheel so high risk on broken balance staff”

So yes, it certainly does need a service.

I have factored this in to the price was asking $1400 for this beautiful rare bird. Now reduced to $700

I accept pp friends or bank wire

Fedex/ParcelPro to lower 48 is on me. Overseas will split with buyer.

Thanks for the space OF

I was just pm'd by one of the forum members about this watch.

He said:

"I’m guessing that the dial, hands and movement came out of a different and older reference from the late 30s based on the serial number, the style of the hands and the style of the Omega symbol / font"

Thoughts anyone? If this is so then I obviously need to change the listing to reflect this.

I`m no expert. But since you ask, all other 2179/3 I find with Google has a 10 mill serial.

Never the less a nice piece😀 GLWTS

I agree with that assessment.

The dial could be original to the case, it certainly looks like an original Omega dial of that period. The movement looks to be a few years older.

it is still an interesting piece. The hands are of an unusual style that were used in the late 1930’s. Collectors love these.

For the Ref. 2179, neither the crystal nor crown should be signed.

Hope this helps,

I agree with that assessment.

it is still an interesting piece. The dial and movement look original, as does the case. I just don’t think they started life together in 1944-45. The hands are of an unusual style that were used in the late 1930’s. Collectors love these.

For the Ref. 2179, neither the crystal nor crown should be signed.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Gator. Movement serial is 9646xxx
