Ignore the haters, if you want a polished watch, awesome BUT - wait a while.
It's not something to be done often and if overdone, will degrade the original lines of the watch as it came from the factory. Polishing every other year would lead to that quite quickly.
Treat it nicely and consider polishing at the 5-10 year mark. Buy another watch to wear and that rotation cuts down on the wear for each. A lot of watch fans and those concerned with value want vintage watches without polishing - but if you're not selling, then you should have the watch in the condition that makes you most happy! Just don't overdo it! (again, after 2 years is overdoing it)
