Smiths Sectric Deluxe Self Starting Movement Directional Spring

Hello,
I recently acquired an ~85 year old Smiths wall clock with type 2 “deluxe” self starting movement. The synchronous motor starts right up and runs beautifully, but the spring mechanism for ensuring the self starting rotor rotates in one direction only, that being counter-clockwise (or anti-clockwise as you would say in UK) has detached. Is there anyone who could post a pic showing the detail of how this assembly is supposed to be fitted into place? I have attached a close up of the vicinity of the spring's placement and a pic of the three parts I found rattling around in the bakelite housing of the movement

Hi David,

Can’t help with pictures, but if you decide that you’d like a watchmaker/clockmaker to fix it, I’d suggest James Harris at Harris Horology in South London.

I’m sure I’ve seen these on his bench (along with all manner of electric/semi-electric Horology over the years!

Cheers

Chris

Thank you for the tip. I will look him up and see what he has to say about it. I’m in America; maybe he can guide me through fixing it
