    hi folks,

Thanks to a watch friend I met in SoCal, I’ll hopefully be soon be a proud owner of a SM300 with date.

Years ago I had sold off a non date to get my grubby paws on a speedmaster to celebrate our first vein and have regretted it ever since. (Selling the watch, not the firstborn LOL)

What I noticed when I started shopping is that prices have gone up more than I had anticipated.

This is true of both Big Triangle and non big triangle ones and of course excludes the military ones that appear to have been at stratospheric levels for a while.

Anyone else following those and notice the same? I seem to not even be able to touch an honest SM300 with a trapezoid 12 for less than $7000!

They seem to have actually closed the gap quite a bit with the Big Triangle ones either date or not.

My hypothesis was that there are so many dishonest big triangles and no way of verifying it on extraction that many prefer an honest trapezoid over a suspicious triangle.

I tried searching for other threads on the topic by couldn’t find one. Apologies if this is already a topic beat to death.

I think that maybe the BT had already shot up first to the 10-12k range and only a bit later did the
trapezoid start to climb. I think BT prices have flattened recently. Your theory may be right also.

I love mine but actually think I prefer the trapezoid a little more.

Good ones are few and far between, however I was fortunate enough to snag this one about four years ago with box, and a 1506/16 bracelet/end link combo.

This is one of my favourite watches regularly seen on OF. An absolute beauty!

Not sure if I am on a dibs list but please add me if not .

I started tracking this a few weeks ago. My sample size is limited to eBay, one auction house sale and searching sales over the last year in the forum. Average selling price from the data I have is:

    Big Triangle - $11K USD
    Non BT's - $6.1K USD

    Hope that helps.

Numerous reasons why the earliest 165024s (all trapezoid 12s) should trade at levels as high as any later renditions, including the BTs.

I’m referring to the 165024-63 and 165024-64 specifically.
They are the first issued examples of the twisted lug SM 300 generation with low production.
They sport the earliest and rarest bezels, uncluttered baton hands, early TT dials and were only offered as non-date versions.

@gemini4 is absolutely right and also here a tendency like in speeds is noticeably, average pieces go for moderate prices but the exceptional ones fetch big money

Another point i think is that the trapezoid is one of the most balanced appearance there is nothing one could complain about, while the bt is fnckin cool but a little out of balance. For me the date window destroys the whole dial .... but that’s just me

Agree.... a no date is a perfectly balanced dial.

It doesn't count when you have 20 of each ;).... mere mortals have to chose a bit more wisely.

    Very nice 166024 btw

    Some incredible ones here, wow.

Here’s my just as balanced trapezoid I sold off years ago for too little. Not as perfect as some of the others.

    :(

Yes, mostly no date’s. A date version sold this morning on eBay for $4550. It had a few challenges (wrong crown, hands relumed), but not a bad price.

You have to click on listing in "The listingPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network you’re looking for is no longer available. Check out this similar item we found for you" in the link. Then you get the right offer. From today morning, 4550$.

A lot of great looking SM300's. Here's mine - box was purchased afterwards and I don't think it's correct.

    Here's my 67.
What you can't tell from the picture is that the numbers are guilt. I know these are quite rare, has anyone else got one? IMG_5773.jpg
