Hello folks, I have an opportunity to acquire a vintage Seamaster 300. The bezel insert is in terrible condition, bezel does not turn and the hands seem to be relumed? I have never owned or wore one, and my knowledge is limited. What do you guys think? Does it look oke? What price would be fair?
Thanks in advance, I appreciate it!

considering overall condition, which is pretty beaten up, case showing wear, scratched plexi and bezel insert destroyed I d expect hands not to be as pristine as in this one. hard to tell if relumed or a replacement set. but whiteness on the second hand says it might be a moder service part.

regarding price i am not aware of current market for this one but someone else will certainly chime in.

Thanks. Seller claims hands are original to the watch and no relume.

They have been relumed. Whether or not that matters is up to you. If you like, they can be relumed to perfection, but then they will clash just as much with the mouldy, unattractive hour markers.

dial look burnt on several areas. by a heat source in direct contact. hands are not original to the watch as they are extremely pristine. white paint looks like a spare part would look. maybe not brand new spare part, can be old, but i don t think as old as the watch. also hour and minut look bright and shiny. just look at the rest of the watch and a burnt dial, destroyed bezel, incorrect crown, scratched plexi and case. hands just scream not born there. not saying seller lies, he may have been told so and he is transmiting.

It all depends on the price. EUR 2k: sold in a flash. EUR 5k: interesting...

I tend to avoid this one, with all the negatives. The asking price is €4000,- so not that high. But for this condition too much?

I’d gamble £2k as is.
Mine cost me £180 as was back in 2013
STS service
James H sorted hands
Aldo for the insert
Good luck and patience needed

It's definitely going to need at minimum a service, crown, hand relume and possibly plexi plus an optional bezel refurb to get it presentable.....and then it still won't be the most attractive due to the darkened dial lume tgat these 165.014's are really prone to.

So I'd estimate somewhere between €500 and€1.2K costs there depending who does what.

I was interested but found the seller not so communicative and that coupled with the now asking of 4K plus the work needed/end result ratio being on the low side my interest has cooled.

I agree, a lot of work the get the what somewhat presentable. Also, the seller claims to be first owner and that the watch never had service or anything done, what is clearly not the case.

Agreed. Also there's no bracelet, no box and no other papers coming with it. These would certainly have made the watch a much more attractive restoration prospect had there been something more than just a random jewellers receipt
