Hi I was able to sell a couple of modern watches and now I would like to buy a SM300 , what you think about this one ? Of course the seconds Hand is not original but what about the rest ? Seller looks for 3K US$ Thanks for your advise Paul
Get some closer pictures of the dial & Bezel. Color is uniform, so it looks like those could be original and in really good condition. If things check out it would be a complete steal.
It seems a bit strange that the seller obviously knows exactly what this is and has an extract of the archives, yet is selling quite a long way below market value, what looks like a very nice watch. I agree with Maganator that you will need to check him out very carefully as it smells like a scam to me.
Price is almost too good to be true! If this isn’t a face to face deal, and If you haven’t already, have him set the time to 9:20 and send you more pics. This will confirm that he actually has the watch in his possession. That aside, dial, bezel, and SN range look ok to me.
Reading this I reach the conclusion that I have to study more the history of Omega watches...could you please let me know why this model it's so expensive..? Thank you in advance.
extract from the archives only proves the movement was used originally in a SM300 - the case would have a number if it was original the case is definitely a service case and bezel - the dial and hands possibly too but can't tell from the photos Good price though!
The only number I’m aware of on these cases is on the case back, and this one is a reclassified 165024 to 166024 as Omega often used the parts that were available at time of assembly.
Hmmmm? With the give away stubbies long gone by the fakers it's damn hard to spot a fake or franken and as the following article says: "If they ever start frankening these with vintage movements they’re going to get harder to spot." http://ialreadyhaveawatch.com/2009/11/new-strain-of-chinese-omega-seamaster-300-fakes/ Those movements were used in the ubiquitous Seamasters and De Villes of the 1960s I think - didn't Watchco also use the 55x and 56x movements in their rebuilds? Anyway, If it seems to good to be true, it usually is...
hadn't noticed that - possibly the case back is original too - but as it stands its mostly service items and at 3000 usd - correctly priced to sell quick. Its easy to change the bridge that has the serial number from another movement - even re-engrave it but I doubt anyone has gone through that trouble here - looks like an honest refurb done by a knowledgable watch guy with access to omega parts as they were until very recently. The date wheel looks a bit silver/gray to me? White and black are correct for the period.
I'm thinking that it's undervalued and that's a reason to be wary - is the seller claiming it is all original (except the seconds hand)?
well it definatley may have been an original SM300 once - but now possible that only the dial hands movement and caseback are original and the rest original service items ... still 100% omega still undervalued even for a 'Watchco'
Pro pics + extract = guy who knows what he is doing and what he has. I would ask straight up why he is selling for so cheap. Tread with caution.
sure - ask for photos of the watch with a current newspaper and try a skype session - if they refuse walk away
Hi, the watch was mine and I sold it to a collector located in France, for much more, last autumn. It is gorgeous and correct. I bought it from a well known Italian dealer in Milan.
