Hello there,

Yesterday I spent my day mostly among vintage cars

Proto, plenty of proto racing cars

Back to classics

etc, etc ...

I'm used to sport vintage Heuer on such events, but chose a Speedy instead

Rainy day, even thunderstorm all around the circuit, fortunately the 60's endurance races were not canceled

Well, I went to an other vintage car show this morning, a bit less prestigious though 😬 ... Saw this magnificent Alpine Renault A1600 (the little white bug just ahead is mine actually 😁 ... makes me feel kind of lost in translation !!! ::facepalm1::)

Anyway, this Alpine was sold originally in 1971. The actual owner bought it in 1979 for the now ridicule price of 4000€ - you'll be lucky to find one for 20 times that price nowadays - and still enjoys it daily 😎

... oh wait, look who's coming ...

... yep, the world famous DrStrong, well known Watchprosite Rolex forum moderator, aboard his beautiful MGB convertible, king of coolness 😀

Hopefully, besides Rolex, DrStrong is long time Omega collector as well. Let's do the mandatory wristshot then...

Wait a minute ?!? Oh boy 🥰

... Speedmaster 2998-1, 1959, sporting a wonderful exotic chocolate flavour dial. This quick poor picture certainly does not do justice to the watch :\

An other, borrowed from DrStrong IG account, made earlier this day

How fortunate ! Friends, vintage cars and watches \o/ - isn't life wonderful 😉

Setting the cars aside, that is a ridiculous, outstanding watch.

How can you ever set "those" cars aside 😕

Nice work on the facial 'camo' on Dr. Strong's face... makes him looks evil!

But what a fantastic chocolate dial on that 2998-1 😲...patina perfection 🥰
... has to be the most beautiful Speedy I've ever seen.

Thanks for sharing these!

Nice friends you got Fred!

Fantastic to see such an epic Speedy "in the wild". If you can say that about a well renowned collector sporting one of his watches.....

@Bill Sohne

Hey Bill,

Nicely seen, the Strong MGB is from 1972, 95HP double Webber and overdrive model from the american market 😉

Jeff sold his previous vintage 911 Targa and switch to this one around a year ago.

Nice Saab you've got there 😎 ... and a even nicer IWC "from the devil" 😜

Hi

Wow. Over drive.... I did not have that in mine.... As I mentioned , I did add the side draft webbers , after first ripping out the CD ZENITH STROMBERG CARB , THAT IF YOU MAKE A HARD RIGHT TURN THE CAR WOULD STALL.
I first wen vintage and removed the Ext manifold and zenith carb for a pre 74 Ext manifold and a rebuilt set of dual su carb from a 69 MGB , then my new Italian mech john, suggested the webbers and a Mona free flow Ext! Hahaha

But now I have " modern technology " w the 900 turbo!

Good hunting
Bill
