This watch is a tribute manufactured by Sinn to what was believed to be the first automatic chronograph worn in space in the 1980’s by German astronaut Reinhard Furrer. About 10 years after the flight it was discovered that it wasn’t the first automatic chronograph in space. Some serious “watch sleuthing” confirmed that Col. William Pogue’s Seiko 6139 preceded the Sinn as being the first automatic chronograph in space, having flown sometime in the mid 1970’s. Regardless, this Sinn represents a space-flown chronograph, and certainly has a presence when worn.

The matte black dial is perfect, and has Tritium indices have gracefully aged to a lovely buttery color. The hour and minute hands are clean and carry a similar color of the dial to their tritium lumed portions. The orange chrono hands are still brightly colored and show well. The 24 hour sub dial at the 12 o’clock position is a neat detail. Day wheel is in German language abbreviation only.

The matte finished case 43mm wide and 45 mm tip-to-tip is in good condition. It has a few minor nicks, but overall in very nice shape with original factory finish on all surfaces. Original signed crown allows the option of hand winding the movement. The Inner rotating bezel is operated by the secondary crown at 10 o’clock.

The caseback shows the Space Shuttle and D1 image in the center of the Brushed caseback, with its polished beveled edge.

The bracelet is typical of the early releases of this reference, and has the same matte finish applied. A spring-loaded clasp allows the watch to fit with gentle pressure to keep it in place. It fits my 7 1/2” wrist easily.

The Lemania 5100 movement is noted to be tough as nails, and this one continues to run nicely. The watch was last serviced in August 2019, and interestingly passed a 50 meter water resistance test at that time. However I’ve removed the caseback in order to take these photos below, so I will not guarantee water resistance any longer.

All in, it is a very nice all original example of this watch, having developed some tasty lume coloring. If you are looking for a watch with the robust Lemania 5100 under the hood, I believe this one should get some consideration.

Price is $2300 USD, exclusive of any transactional costs, delivered to the USA. Paypal works well for me, and other methods can be discussed and mutually agreed to. Overseas shipment is also possible following a discussion and joint agreement. I accept returns only if the watch is mis-represented.
