Happy New Year everyone. I am new to Omegas, having bought two new this year, a Moonwatch and a Silver Snoopy. Like many on here I paid full price back in June so when I got the watch last month it was like getting a free watch, and as with my Moonwatch, the quality and beauty of the thing is appreciated long after the price is forgotten.
But what is it about this one that seems to have gripped the world in collective insanity? There are nine or so on Chrono24 averaging £11k, so approx USD16k, and two on eBay at EUR 20k. I have even been offered £7k for mine on a commission sale by a shop in London.
Every time I look at it it puts a smile on my face, but I cannot fathom why somebody would pay these inflated prices.
As I said, I am new to this, and somewhat bemused.

Silver Snoopy was a very limited production run. You would have a tough time finding one for sale in an AD today.

To use your analogy, I think his question is, why are 10 people thirsty when there are plenty of water fountains all around...

It's the Same crazy thing happening with Limited Edition Porsches These days . The gt3 rs was 150k £ New from the Dealer. Good luck finding one under 250k now. Supply and demand. You were Lucky to get one from the AD when it was New. I would say if you are not to emotionally attached to the snoopy flick it for a ton of Profit. Surf the Wave as long as it lasts and buy a nice vintage piece from the Money you get from it.

The limited editions will remain high for a couple months as the pieces trickle into customers' hands - but in a year or so, when they're bored of it and want to buy the next LE Speedmaster or whatnot, the prices will come down below the original retail price. Happens with all of them

I think this particular limited edition can be one of the few exceptions. The dial + the caseback is radically different from other limited editions or any other timepiece.. The only way that the snoopy can be devaluating in resale price will be if omega creates limited edition watches with the same features as this one (case back+details on dial)

I bought my Speediorite second-hand for less than the retail price. There isn't another Omega with a meteorite dial is there?

The GT3 RS is fetching a premium.... But nothing like the 997 GT3 4.0 - RHD uk cars are fetching £450k - I sold one at £155k that was including a 10k premium when it was new.

And the Speediorite had much quoted high desirability rating in the forums.

As has been said before - the meteorite-dial Apollo-Soyuz 35th is currently worth less than it was new; it's the only Speedmaster with a meteorite dial (and one of the few watches, period).... the Apollo XI 45th anniversary, to my knowledge the only Speedmaster Professional made of titanium, is as well. Compared to those two, the Silver Snoopy is actually quite pedestrian, materials-wise.... As with any of these watches, if you like it, buy it - but don't buy expecting to make money on it! :)

I agree with this. This one has many factors making it special in that its Apollo 13 commemorative, Snoopy edition, only 1970 pieces plus the 'hand made delay' factor even adding to the hype.

Actually meteorite dial watches are all over the gem shows...The meteorite dealers are relieved to have something other than balls to sell.

The watches cost about $200-500 and probably tell the time as well as a mobile phone

It'll be interesting to see what they do for 50th Anniversary, to top this one.

Interesting! Didn't know that - the only other watch I've known to have a meteorite dial was that Daytona Rolex put out a few years ago. My focus on watches is fairly narrow, though - mostly tool watches - so I'm not surprised that I'd not known about something like this.

But there are loads of cheaper watches made with the same materials as various Omegas that will tell the time as well as a mobile phone. But they're not Omegas. Isn't that the point of us being here?
