What is your opinion on the value added to this Speedmaster with the signature? While I'm inclined to believe the seller, and the clasp ridges has to be tough place to sign, but the signature bares no resemblance to Lovell's autograph. I like the idea but think it may have been executed better. http://www.ebay.com/itm/121642547348?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:ITPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Seems silly to me. First, the signature is not likely to last very long and will wear off. Is the idea that the watch would be a display piece? I would be far more interested in a package that would include a signed picture of Lovell along with the watch. Second of all, I would want more significant assurances of authenticity. After several years experience on eBAY I am somewhat leery of promises made by anonymous sellers on eBAY. How about a dollar bill signed by George Washington
A picture of Lovell signing the watch makes it a bit more interesting. I would agree that without proper care the signature would soon be worn off. I do think that where it is on the clasp it is in the least likely place to get worn since it would be folded into the clasp and not exposed to the skin directly. That said, with constant wear moisture and dirt would soon degrade the signature which is barely ledgible as is.
His personal guaranty of authenticity is comforting. Sort of like the guaranty certificate of the World Series baseball signed by Mother Theresa a few years ago.
