With all the news lately, and inflation, I've been buying gold, mostly coins. So I figured I'd take the cooler and less economical route, and buy a chunky gold watch. But if you want something significant, not your typical, flimsy dress watch, with hollowed out lugs, skimpy on gold, you'll have to pay a premium. My local coin shop had this same model in stock, very worn though, like a bar of soap. So I did my research, and found this model on eBay, which was my first time going through the authentication process. I waited anxiously for about a week and a half for this to arrive. But it appears to have more gold than a vintage day date, and without the huge premium. I can see why this style is overlooked. It's dated and retro. But I absolutely love it, like a brick of 18k gold. Yet it feels like a modern watch, solid, minus the acrylic crystal.

Pocket watches acceptable? This Waltham Colonial from 1937, presented to a fellow on his 25th anniversary with his employer. And he never used it! I bought it just as you see it, at auction. Case by Keystone, the watch still in its linen sachet.

OP Date

14k and hollow center links on jubilee but definitely less of a premium than Day Date….
