This is not a real Explorer...but it was often referred to as the "business suit" Explorer...the 1018. Some disreputable people have taken them and put a 1016 dial in them and tried to pass them off as 1016s. Both are 36mm w/ 20mm lugs, the movements are the same, but the 1018 crystal, crown and case tube do not have the same depth rating as the 1016. These black glossy gilt dials are very rare, more common are the silver dials.

I bought it, found it too small for me so the wife wears it now.

That looks great on you. Do you mean small in proportion or too small to read? Or just too restrained and ... small?
I feel its small in size, due to corona I have gained some weight everywhere and about half an inch diameter on my wrist. Perhaps its because I feel bloated or I wear 39-42mm usually but I can't seem to like it on me.

Haven't seen too many 124273s but was able to pick this one up at an AD after about a month on the wait list! Was not expecting it to be honest...
