One of my most worn watches since I got it almost 1 month ago.
I am not a big fan of the engraved rehaut, but i really appreciate that they introduced an anti-reflecting coating on this model. Also one of the most comfortable steel bracelets i have had so far, the easy link extention works wonders on my weird wrist.
It is obviously not even close competition to the 1016 Explorer, but from the modern Explorers this is the first choice for me.
The lume is really strange on Rolex though, my old 114270 had simply miserable lume, i was looking forward to the upgraded lume on 124270 and it is in fact way better, but for some strange reasone it doesnt charge as easily from normal light sources like Mobilephone LED or so. However ones its charged bright it really lasts long and easily through the night.
But my old 2254 Seamater is still better in respect of lume chargeing.
Nonetheless i think it was a good release this year and the very first Rolex release that made me actually go to OB and put my name on the stupid list..

Posted these a couple weeks back in WRUW, but figured they should be on here too… 16570.
1. Yosemite.
2. 14,197’ on top of Mt Princeton, CO

3. kayak on Lake Tahoe..

Absolutely love this watch!
I actually wore it on brown leather to a wedding last weekend, but forgot to get a photo.

After having moved for work I made it to the local Rolex AD in order to submit myself to their scrutiny and interrogations toward being deemed worthy of purchasing a new 36mm Explorer. I tried on a massive two-tone sea-dweller, Explorer II black dial, and a couple 36mm Datejusts.

The sea-dweller was too much for me in every regard. The Explorer II is a fantastic watch. The white dial datejust seemed a good size but the black dial seemed a little small and hard to read.

Then I noticed a blue Tudor Black Bay 36mm and thought that would be a good approximation of the 36mm Explorer. It may be a little thinner than the Rolex but I really liked the feel of a smaller watch on the wrist. The legibility of the dial makes a big difference in a smaller watch too.

Does the 36mm Explorer wear just a little bigger than the BB36? Anything else I should be considering from your experience with the 36 Explorer? I'm hoping when I finally try one on the coolness of the dial and the ease of wear will win me over.
I tried the BB36 about 3 years ago before i had the chance to try any Explorer. My first impression was it was tiny, then tried the 41mm and it was humongous.. couldnt warm up to either, but that was before i started wearing 34/35/36mm watches, so who knows how i would react now to BB36. Maybe i should go to the AD and check it out.
My very first impression of the 36mm 114270 Explorer was simmilar that it was tiny, but than i got used to it and now think its actually fits me well.
My subjective impression is that the new 36mm Explorer wears slightly larger than the previous 114270. But then again, maybe i just got used to the size.
Maybe you should just go to an AD and check if they have one to try. We have two ADs in my town and both ADs have the both 36mm Explorers in windows not for sale, but to try them on.
I hope i didnt confuse you more 😁

congrats! It’s a nice watch that usually flies under the radar. The GMT feature with quickset hour hand makes traveling through times zones very fun! Enjoy it!

new member of the club. Really happy with this pre-bling ring 114270. Nice and thin and more subtlety than I expected.

What do you mean with the pre-bling?
The latest 124270 is not any more bling than the 114270, it even has less glare from crystal due to AR coating.
The last real pre-bling is probably the 1016 that falls into this category imho.

The “bling ring” is the engraved rehault

Here is mine, love it!

Number on the bezel seems to have been repainted… how common is that on 16570?
Faded number seems to be more than common in this model, someone confirm?

Really enjoying my Explorer II. My only regret is not getting one 5 years earlier. 😀
