I am a big fan of gold capped watches. I especially like ones from the 70s. They have to be in very good cosmetic condition, if not they look pretty horrid in my eyes.
If you are differentiating between plated and capped gold then remember to add in gold filled as well, which should probably be in between plated and capped gold as it is thicker than plated gold. Some of my lost loved Omegas have been gold capped and there is no denying the quality of the application that Omega did.
As much as many collectors distain the gold cap; can an argument be made that the watch itself might be in better shape ( all things being considered; I get this could be a stretch) - because they, as dress watches - were worn less often and perhaps more carefully? I’m new to the vintage collecting; just wondering ...
