Should modern Omega make a ticking noise? (Omega Co-Axial 8938)

I have an Omega Aqua Terra Worldtimer with Co-Axial 8938 movement.

This is making quite an audible ticking noise.

I have other omega watches, which are quiet. So i assumed this would be too, but unsure as this is a different movement.

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

Your AT Worldtimer has a sapphire case back. Are you comparing the sound to other watches with a solid case back?

Caliber 8938 has a frequency of 25,200 vph, which is relatively fast. Are you comparing the sound of this to other watches with a slower frequency?

Best wishes!

Does it tick 7 times a second, or 1 time a second? If the latter, you鈥檝e made a really expensive mistake 馃榿

My Omega DeVille Tresor with the manual wind co-axial 8929 Caliber, 25,200 frequency and sapphire case back doesn't make a ticking noise.

That I can hear, anyway. But my 64 years old ears don't work as well as they used to (along with everything else, sigh).

How far away is your ear from the watch? For my 2 co-axial 3330 movement watches, I have to put my ear at least within 6 inches of the watch. One is louder than the other. The louder one is on the steel bracelet, the quieter one is on a sailcloth strap.

How far away can you hear the clicking? I don't have a manual or automatic watch that I can hear clicking unless I'm within 3-6inches from my ear.

I have a quartz Swatch that is so loud I don't wear it unless I'm going to be around people and other background noise... So basically it's been in a drawer since Covid started 馃う

Tell me about it. I think they鈥檙e designed to be obnoxiously loud. I can hear it from an arms length!

I can hear ticking on my 3861 if I put my ear real close to the watch.
I can also hear ticking on my caliber 9300 GSOTM, from a little further away. It also sounds like a bunch of marbles when the rotor weight spins around.

The only thing thats basically silent is my Casamigos PO with Caliber 8906

When I was a kid, suffering from frequent ear infections, (that was a LONG time ago) my doctor told me to check my hearing by listening for the tick-tock of my old Timex watch. I remember being able to hear it tick. Today I could put my ear up against Big Ben and wouldn't hear a thing.
