Should I pull the trigger on this Omega Constellation (Sunburst dial)?

Title says it all; you can find pictures here: http://imgur.com/a/RUMOQ

It looks beautiful honestly, I just don't know enough about constellations and in my research didn't come across any with that specific dial. Most of the ones I've seen/am familiar with have the pie pan dial...

Ref ST 168.0056, cal 1101 and "all original parts"

The dial has degraded - that's not a feature. ;)

That's what I was thinking, but it still looked "cool" :p.

EDIT: Initially I thought it was a feature because it was described as a meteorite dial but I can't find a constellation anywhere else that looks like this...

If you google image search "omega 168.0056" you'll get a heap of examples of this watch, with different dial variants.

This one I'm guessing is black/blue metallic? Hard to tell from the photos - it's not uncommon to see metallic finishes on dials from the 1970s that have tarnished.

Oh, I meant that I couldn't find anything like this because of the pattern (degradation as you pointed out). But agree, I think it's a blue metallic.

So to answer your original question - if you like it, you're happy with the price being asked, and want to own it - then yes, buy it.

If you're looking for a ST168.0056 in original condition with an undamaged dial - this is not it.

:) I just wanted a second eye on the watch to confirm it was authentic. From what I could tell, it was (by comparing pictures), but my eyes are relatively untrained here. Appreciate the feedback Tyran! I'm on the fence and usually when that's the case I tend to not purchase... $1600..

That's far too much money for one of these.

After looking up prices from previous connies that have sold, that's my feeling as well. I'll see what I can do, otherwise I won't be hurt if I lose a deal on this one.

drop the 1 off the front and it's still too much IMHO
They might come into their own one day but these Connies aren't that collectible yet

The seller claimed it was designed by Gerald Genta, but I am not sure how to confirm that. Perhaps that's why it's marked up?

I have had few of these dials in the past of other Swiss manufactures and they looked just like the one posted in the photographs. they are called blue lapis dial. it could be original?

Genta designed a lot of watches including some for Omega
Check out Desmond's blog to see if he mentions it

You have the model reference - use google to find more examples, check eBay sold prices.

    The seller is an arsehole.

They are difficult to find. there are collectors out there who specifically collect lapis blue dial watches.

Wow, that's gorgeous. Thanks for sharing. I'm having trouble with the price at the moment (only because I half want to save up for something else), but I will definitely keep this in mind :).

@FREDMAYCOIN those aventurine dials are gorgeous... but that is not what the Constellation that the OP posted has.

It's a metallic blue, that's flaking off - again, it's a dial that is losing it's finish, it did not leave Switzerland like that.

That watch in good condition is maybe £600.

The watch the OP posted has damage to the bezel, dinks in the case, a filthy movement that looks like it could do with some time on a watchmakers bench, and the degraded blue dial... it's nothing special... it is very certainly not worth $1600.
