i am offered a mint condition two tone Datejust for around $ 4000. Is it lucrative enough to buy or in light of new movement introduced in 36 mm series this year its not worth the price quoted by the seller? Please advise. Thanks
If you like and plan on keeping the watch probably a fair price. As a quick turn not so much, correct me if I’m wrong but these are very common and hence don’t hold up well on the used market and are a tough sell...
Yes dear you’re right indeed. The only attraction is that it is a classic Rolex Datejust watch in an evergreen size available at a reasonable price. My other concern is that I don’t know much about the difference in the movement of this watch with new 32xx series. If new series is much better then saving few thousand bucks doesn’t make sense. I don’t flip my watches easily.
Retail price is irrelevant to this. What is important is the Market price. Determine this and act as you judge and desire.
Yes indeed but I don’t have way to check market prices per se as India is not a market where there is enough movement to get the market prices etc. That is one of the reason why I posted my query here as I’ll get the decent feel of the international price of such Watch.
$4000 is quite a bit above market price for a two tone DJ if you ask me. (and technically, you did ask me) DateJusts are more ubiquitous than all other Rolexes by far.
Yes Sir, I asked you, technically and otherwise both. I also thank you for your opinion. That will help me in taking a call on this deal. Thanks indeed.
terrible deal. that watch is quite old. like 10+ years old, at least. im guessing it is a 16013. it is prob worth around $2500-3000 on a great day.
Condition is pretty good, price is on the higher side. I have a similar 16013 that I got for $3000CAD, although I thought mine was quite a steal. It's on the newer side with quickset in comparison to older 1601's makes life easier. One of my favourite watches and probably the best bang for your buck you can buy to be honest. Aside from vintage Omegas that is, haha.
I think you should work out if you want or like the watch first. From someone who has been there, buying something because it seems good value is ok at the time, but when you want to offload it you may take a bath. Those models are not really suitable money making tools. If you like the watch and want to keep, as long as it’s a full set maybe try to get a bit off and you have a good piece at a reasonable price.
$4,000 is not exactly a bargain for DJ models though. If you like it, negotiate down and it will be a more reasonable deal.
I understand and have abandoned the idea. Thank you all for helping me save my money that I was going to spend unnecessarily on that watch.
No dear not now. I was just being greedy as I thought it was available at a great bargain. I realised later that unless I really want a watch I should not buy it merely because it’s available at a bargain. A lesson learnt indeed.
