    Hello OF,

I am currently looking into shipping an item to Hungary and have been looking into some options.
Parcelpro on the website only allows for a 100.00 insured amount at the local address. Another option is to send it to the APO box, has anyone had any experience with this? The item is not extremely valuable, under 500.00 USD.
I have called and left a message with Parcelpro and figured while I wait, I would see if any OF members had experienced anything like this.

Has anyone sent a package insured above 100.00 USD value to Hungary?
If so, how was this done?

I live in Hungary and I got plenty of watches from abroad, it went always smoothly, maybe you should choose a different shipping company if you want to insure your watch for the whole value.

The item I want to send is a part and wanted to get it properly insured. What shipping/ insurance company have you used?

Huh, Okay. Maybe this is just a Parcelpro thing. How was customs for inbound packages?

The buyer in Hungary has to pay 27 % VAT after (the value of the item + the cost of the shipping), and 3 % customs, and around 1% handling cost to the shipping company (as you mentioned dollar values I lived with the assumption that you are from the US). To be honest it's a pain in the ass receiving a package from there.
There are no customs if we receive something from the EU, and we have one of the highest VAT % in the world.
From your perspective, there are no extra customs, just some extra paperwork.

Thank you, that certainly clears some things up for me. The member has an APO box, so that could be an option as well.
Really appreciate you clarification on inbound packages from the US.

I’m not sure how much more clarity you’ll get from ParcelPro. I think I actually remember talking about Hungary with a ParcelPro rep and she didn’t seem to know any more details. Please share if you end up finding anything out.

From what I have gathered is that Parcelpro considers Hungary a high risk shipping destination, if this is true or not I can't say as I have no information other then what was mentioned.

Shipping it to an APO box and decided that USPS was the best solution given the circumstances.

Just out of curiosity, if someone has a solution regarding shipping from the US to Hungary insured for full value, I would like to hear about it.

Interesting - I have an older list from 2009 showing the allowed insurance for each country from ParcelPro, and Hungary is listed at $5000 USD. So if they have lowered it to $100 now, there's probably a reason.
