I’ve shipped to India in the past via FedEx, isn’t that an option for your circumstances?

Set-up a ParcelPro account. He can ship via DHL or UPS (if FedEx won't ship), and if he follows the instructions provided by ParcelPro, via you, they will insure the package for you. I think it's called 3rd party insurance. He will have to claim true purchase value for amount of insurance you want.

A 10k watch from India would :cautious::cautious: make me rather cautious.

Look up " under bond movement " can be sent from international airport to international airport. You pick it up at the bond store near the airport. Full duties will apply as it is usually customs controlled depots/ bond stores.
Happens a lot with high value jewellery and goods.
