I tried to ship my flighty to Omega Switzerland today and it was a nightmare! USPS won't insure more than 850. FedEx won't insure for more than 1000 on a watch? UPS will insure up to 2499 it seems? What do you all recommend? Who do you use? Etc..

I use ParcelPro and I just heard about CGI on another forum. Both get you huge discounts on shipping costs (volume discounts based on all the Jewelers who use them) and then they provide 3rd party private insurance. I just read that CGI is even cheaper and much easier to set up an account with. Parcel Pro was a PITA to set up the account. From that other forum thread it said

    "head on over to http://www.shipcgi.com

They don’t charge membership fees, yearly or monthly dues. You pay when you use them."

The customer service numbers they gave for account set up were...

    California office
    (619) 334-2666

    Miami office
    (786) 534-8879

Well they cannot spell correctly on their main webpage, not sure what that says about them.
"The CGI API provides a streamlined solution that integrates seemlessly with your own online storefront or corporate website."

Why are you sending it directly to Switzerland? Couldn't you get your local Omega AD to send it?

Have not tried it. Parcel post looks promising. But I think my best option would be to just use UPS and insure it for 2499.99. or Snail mail it through USPS and apparently I can get more insurance that way.

Find your nearest OB and ship to them or drive there.

As Foo2rama suggests would be the best bet. Guessing you are in the US? Fedex International Priority and Economy have been good for me getting stuff shipped from USA to Thailand. Have had a few shipped with USPS without incident. Insured for US$250 so I don't get whacked for import tax on the full value of a serviced watch. If you declare US$2499.99 the recipient in EU might have to pay import tax on the declared value?

Omega HQ said I should send it to them directly since Omega US was no help.

Sending it to Switzerland would still be sending it out of the EU, though ;)

Honestly, I wouldn't care about insurance. The subject about lost watches in the mail has been up before, and I don't think that more than a few people on here had experienced any incidents - compare that with the many thousands of parcels the members on this site has sent through the years...

agree. Until it's YOUR stuff that gets lost. Been there done that (not a watch that was lost, though)
