I inherited an Omega Quartz Seamaster Deville that my dad received on retiring in 1980. It has a Speidel flex wristband that matches the general gold color of the watch. I think I might like to get it running again, but is the battery replacement something a person can do themselves or does it need to be brought to a service center?

The Seamaster Deville range often came with a unishell case. The battery replacement is do-able on your own. But I wouldn't recommend it. It is possible by removing the bezel and glass, and taking the crown out, and then the movement and changing the battery. The crown can be tricky to take out, and recently my watchmaker snapped mine. As I said, I wouldn't recommend it, and a good watch maker should be able to do it relatively easily.

Also, take the Spediel strap off, it wears away the lugs and is generally not good for the watch.
