Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Eterna made top-notch watches and competed in the same market segment as brands like Omega, Longines, and Zenith. The company was justifiably proud of its technological innovations, such as the five-ball-bearing auto-winding mechanism that became the model for the Eterna-matic logo. Today, they represent an excellent value in the vintage market.

This is a lovely 1960 Eterna-matic from my collection that I picked up a few years ago but doesn't get much wrist-time. The beautiful sunburst silver dial and hands are clean, with custard-yellow lume. The hidden-crown case is sharp with well-defined edges and chamfers, showing some wear as visible in the photos. The movement and case-back serial numbers are close numerically, as they should be, both indicating 1960. This watch was serviced in 2018 by my watchmaker and it's running well - ready to wear. As always, I am not making any specific representations about future timekeeping. Similarly, I make no claims or guarantees about water-resistance.

It comes with an Eterna box that I received with the watch, but don't know that it's original to the watch. The watch currently has an interesting super-flex vintage mesh bracelet installed. The bracelet has some value, but if you'd prefer a leather strap, I'm happy to swap it out for you. I have a pretty good stock of straps, so just ask.

Lots of photos below, please take a good look to judge condition, and don't hesitate to ask questions by DM.

Seriously folks- what is this thing still doing here?!?? If you are new to collecting- Eterna was one of the big guns pre-Quartz crisis. This is on par with any Omega, Longines, or Universal of its day- this is the epitome of vintage elegance and cool.

these recessed crown cases are spectacular on the wrist. Very clean and streamlined. I have a Gubelin with Eterna movement otherwise I’d buy this. That and I’m a slave to Zenith now

I am also stunned that no one grabbed this.

Maybe the low price is a turn off to the uninitiated.

Perhaps price it at $800?

Thanks everyone for the helpful comments. I guess this comment about the price is only half joking.

I got a good deal when I bought the watch, so my idea was to put a good price on it, and pass it on to a forum member who will give it more wrist time. It’s a great watch with no issues.
