·Up for grabs is this stunning Omega Jumbo Pie Pan Constellation. Sized at about 35.5mm, those of you itching to enjoy one of Omega’s design hallmarks can do so in a larger format. Many of these 168.004 Constellations come with a dome dial, or a dome dial that has been finished with a pie-pan-like motif. This is not one of those. The dial is a true, faceted pie-pan specimen, and even has a subtle step between the minute track and facets not unlike the vintage Speedmaster dials used before the 70s. The light dances across the geometry wonderfully, and with the minimal design of the case, it is by far the centerpiece of this example.
Dial: The dial is the iconic Omega ‘Pie Pan’ design, rendered in a brilliant sunburst silver with a glossy clear coat. The indices are lapped, faceted, and inlaid with Onyx – Another classic Omega feature. All minute markers are present, and all printing is original, intact and period correct.
Serifs are present and sharp enough to cut yourself on. Light spotting patination is present on the dial. Original dauphine hands with black lacquer infill.
Case: The jumbo case is in solid condition, and has seen a light polishing before. It still has a decent number of small dings and scratches, but all original contours and edges are still present (not soft or soap-like).
Crown: Original, period-correct Omega crown with vintage ‘flat foot’ logo. Correct low-profile model. Stays out of sight and can be a pain to grasp, but that’s probably the point.
Crystal: The crystal is an original, OEM Omega crystal with the period-correct vintage ‘flat foot’ Omega logo. It has some light marks and at some angles, some stress marks from age. It’s been retained for originality but could be replaced if a generic or service crystal is on hand.
Movement: The movement is a 1966 Omega 561. All functions are working properly, and the watch is keeping time very well. Amplitude is a solid 280. It’s in solid condition, overhauled in 2022, and is not missing any parts.
The case has had a sapphire exhibition caseback installed and modified to fit. Fun conversation piece. Of course, the original vintage caseback will be included with the watch, and can be swapped in with ease.
