We've decided omegaforums.net needs a bit more muscle behind it to let us continue to grow our userbase while increasing performance, so we've provisioned some new server hardware, that is a pretty gigantic step up from what we're on currently. The new setup will be running newer software too, so we're able to dial it in and tune it a lot more tightly than the current setup.

The combination of the fastest SSD disks on the market in RAID 10, and latest generation of Ivy Bridge Xeon along with 8 times the RAM should really kick things along quite nicely, and we're at the point of testing the new machine prior to the changeover.

We will have probably around 30 minutes downtime when we finally get to the move, but we'll give you notice in advance through this thread, and put up a maintenance page for the duration.

30 minutes? You mean we might actually have to spend an entire half hour with our families?

Or you could do something like read a book, write a poem, etc

    The possibilities are endless!

My physician (thanks Mike) advises that I drink a quart of Bundy Rum and check my computer in the morning, or afternoon if I don't wake up 'till then.:D

It would be between whoever came up with "Ninjas of Disappointment" and "Golden Squirrel of Distraction"

You honor me, but that was the listing that was funny - if you recall, there were actual small crystal swans in it - not in the same category. The Ninjas and the Squirrel were acts of poetic invention.

Yeap, if you notice anything odd let us know in this thread but it all went as was planned and appears to be functioning correctly.

Looks like the upgrade working well. I can feel the difference: faster and more responsive from my BB browser.

Nice to have the appointment while I was fast asleep. I'd have tipped the installer if I were awake.
