Recently, I've been looking for a nice complement for my Speedmaster Grail 376.0822. I began by looking at the boutique's Mark 2, and I realized that I enjoyed the heft and shape of the case. That led my search to the vintage 176.0012 Mark 4.5 reference, which has a very similar case, but with the Lemania 5100 movement. Considering I already own the 376.0822, do you think the Speedmaster Mark 4.5 176.0012 would be a worthy addition to my collection? Is this reference highly regarded in the Vintage Speedmaster community? Thanks for any opinions.
Not sure on how regarded it is in the community but the dial gives me a headache. Bit too busy for me!
I had one for a short while (movement problems forced me to send it back). In the brief time I had it I really liked it. Good heft, and a nice shape. Mine that the integrated bar type bracelet which gave it a very distinctive look. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Same movement as yours, but the case/bracelet of these, will give it a very different feel on the wrist. Best advice I can offer is to find one you can try in the metal before buying. As far as worthiness, that's down to you to decide. I bought a non runner in January 2016 for £600... good ones go for £1500-£2000 if prices asked are actually being paid. Ultinately, buy it if you like it, wear it in good health, don't expect to make money on it, and don't give a damn what anyone else thinks.
Had one for a while too. Enjoyed it. If you can find one cheap, it makes a nice way to store parts should your grail need something unobtainable.
I, as always applaud asking questions, but seriously, you need to get one of these on your wrist and see if YOU like it. Go try one on!
Agreed. I own and have owned more than my fair share of Lemania powered watches and find them the most legible chronographs, period. The Mark IV is, in my opinion, a handsome watch. It is also very hefty. Too much so for my taste, and the weight is unbalanced in my estimation. The head flops around on the lightweight bracelet. The 176.0014 square-dial or the similar 176.0015 are better balanced but still too heavy for me. You might enjoy one or the other. The 176.0012 is not a very valuable piece, I think. There are often many available and prices have not been increasing much. If you find one that is in good condition and inexpensive, it might make a nice casual watch but not what I would consider a companion to the 376.0082.
Wha...Huh... I thought those only came in matte black and the sunburst greyish finish? At least that's what I remember reading on ChronoMaddox. Do you know more about that blue dial?
There are some of these on eBay now https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/322353862784Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
I like almost everything about that watch except for the thickness and the word "Speedmaster" on the dial.
