Hi everybody!
Looking for a Speedy of 1986. The serial number can help to date a watch when it came without paper it seems.
I found different kind of grid.

https://est1897.co.uk/omega-serial-numbers-how-old-is-your-omega-watch

They told that for Speedy, it's a bit different scale, with small gap compare to the other model.
Between 47-48.000.00 one a source, 49-50.000.000 from an other.
Moreover, between use of movements number listing, and case number, I’m a bit lost.
Can anyone light me in this point?
Perhaps some people with 86’s Speedy with papers to compare with the grids?
Thanks in advance

Hi

yes actually the case number is linked to the era of the speed. Yours must be a 145.022 with a 45xxxxxx serial number. The movment numbers of the speedmasters are different from the other collections. Don't your movement number matches the papers?
just be aware that one different years you have to check the dial, the caseback, the pushers, the lugs, the indeces. For a rather recent speedy of 1984 you shoud have
- a tritium dial (with TTs), short indices and no step
- a DOT bezel with no accent on TACHYMETER
- a seahorse casebak with circular inscriptions
- a 861 movement begining with 45

cheers

You can try this reverse query (birth month -> serial number):

https://www.ilovemyspeedmaster.com/productiondateprediction/birthdate/

What it tells me when I feed it '06/1986' (so June) is :

47046204 to 48221052 for 1986.

If I feed those into the forward query (which is pretty good) it guesses :

47046204 : 1985, October
48221052 : 1987, January

I would say that's a decent range to search for, especially considering there are only 3 extracts between 1981 and 1987 (but luckily they still trickle in).

The extracts for '86 are both mid '86 and 4713XXXX SNs.

If you do find something, use the forward query (serial number -> production date (https://www.ilovemyspeedmaster.com) ).
It will not replace an archive extract, but should be quite close.

And when you do find your Speedy, and order an extract, please upload it.

Thanks @Kwijibo for all your precision. I start to be used with some kind of detail reflex look, but not as deep as your description! 😀

@Foo2rama , which one you thought is?
And I thought 86's Speedy ref' was 145.0022, not 145.022?
Case is 145.0022, the ref was not.

The serial number is wrong. That chart is pretty outdated at this point.

Find one with 482.xxx.xxx.
According @eugeneandresson , this might be from 87’ beginning.
Just for my knowledge, theses lugs on the pics, looked over polish aren’t they?

hard to say on the pic of the back. Look at the front. There must be a clear nice edge. The pusher looks like first gen?

the case looks decent IMHO. Bezel could be a replacement. The lume of the chrono hand looks clearer than the others, replacement?

Hi again on this thread.
Have a question about the "Speedmaster" writing.
Did someone know when does the S and R stopped to be "Big italic"..?
Seems near 80', but don't find si strict answer.
