Serial number 19769585 dates watch to 1962, but does caseback ref # 135.007-63 say it's 1963 watch?

I found a budget Omega whose serial number 19769585 dates watch to 1962, but does the caseback ref # 135.007-63 point to it being a 1963 watch? I found an old thread on another forum from 2012 where a similar watch with that ref number was found to be a 1962.

I just didn't know if the -63 meant the year, although in this case I don't think it does because a similar search substituting the -63 for a -62 come up with nada. I just wanted to be sure. I'm still not sure this watch is for me though. I like a dial that looks aged, but not one that looks dirty.

    Thanks!

Not at all uncommon for there to be a gap between when a movement was made and when it was cased.

So, the -63 is the case back year, and not part of the model number?

Yes, but I'd be concerned about the franken-ness of that watch because the coat hanger S was no longer used after 1963. It was being phased out starting in 1961-ish.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I can't think of what I would do without the advise in the forums and private messages here.

So it looks like a '61 dial, '62 movement, '63 case = not possible to come from Omega like that?

...and with a closer look the movement looks tired as well.

That's why it's $399 or best offer. I was going to start at $200, but...

How about this 1962 Omega? 1962 by SN and 1961 case.

    Is there any value there?

Dial is fugly on that first one. Also, I thought the "alpha" hands were supposed to be creased in the center. Second one is a little bit better, but still not anywhere close to a collector condition piece.

It is very common for there to be up to a 2 year gap between production of movement and casing. That's likely one of the reasons that Omega stopped using those two digit codes in the mid-'60's, although I can't say for sure.

Not liking that one at all.

That's a 29mm watch maximum. They used to call this "Boy's Size", or unisex.

Not sure you would be happy with it. Also, OCWatch is not one of my favorite sellers. They tend to be overpriced and have a lot of very odd looking redials, although this dial looks original.

Let me guess...they want over $500 for this watch?

It's listed for 695 but will take 550. They say it's 31.5 mm. I was actually thinking that this would be a birth year watch that my wife could wear after I'm dead and gone. I have some poor health problems and had to retire from working early, so I'm fairly sure she will outlive me.

The more I think about it the more I think this might be a good 22nd anniversary present for my wife next month...

I think the price is at least $200 over market. But it's here now.

I wouldn't even been posting this thread right now if my max bid of $1168 for an extremely nice original Connie Pie Pan had been enough yesterday. The auction was posted here, so I had competition from experienced collectors. I used Gixen to snipe from 2 servers but the winner beat me by $25, and who knows how high his snipe was set for... That was the perfect one for me,

I think you made a fair bid for the Meister watch. Someone wanted it more.

You can have instant gratification and overpay, or you can be patient and get good value for your money. It's very rare that you get both.

I'm sensing a bit of frustration setting in.

I'm more frustrated with myself, because if I had said to myself "how will I feel if I don't win this watch?" Then I could've answered that and decided to put in a higher bid. I really would have gone over $1250 in hind sight, but only for the right watch. That was my opportunity to not overpay by more than $50, and I blew it.

Remember, I was willing to go even higher for a vintage Rolex, but not when I'm being tricked into going higher and higher with a shill bidder in the mix. I knew the value of that watch, so every time I added $25 to the counter offer I thought that was going to be the end of it. That Rolex should've gone for the $1285 I bid the first time, before the shill took over.

Would I have been happier over paying $400 for a 62 Rolex, possibly. But I could not in good conscience accept the second chance offer after being manipulated like that, because I did not want to reward the seller even though it cost me the watch.

Sure, it's possible - but I think you'll find better examples if you're willing to spend a little more.

Remember, none of these watches were one of a kinds. There's ALWAYS another for sale a day, a week, or a month later.

You didn't blow it. You have no way of knowing whether the winning bidder was willing to pay $25 or $2,500 more.

eBay only makes them pay up to the next increment (in this case, $25).

That's why it's important to do your homework and put into Gixen the highest amount that you are willing to pay for the item. Also, I'm not following the two server thing.

You could wind up outbidding yourself.

be patient for your birthyear watch...... do not rush it. it will come along eventually and you will be happy . frustration is a poor guide. and if you can find a rolex, spend the extra, if it is your heirloom for the family. register and post a wanted to buy at the Vintage Rolex Forum. there are very decent guys there and you will not overpay..... and post at the same time your quest on the forum with your money limit and your wish to find one as a heirloom from your birth year. you will find help there. good luck ! kind regards. achim
