Sell a 16610 for the FAT 116610

Gentleman,

Really I'm not looking for a 16610 vs 116610 thread.
A while back I owned a 116610. I loved the watch, it was truly my grail. I sold it for my upcoming wedding.

There is a Sub 116610 NEW for sale at retail cost. I was close to making a deal but I found a MINT 16610 for 2,500 less then the 116610.

Now here is the issue. I want that 116610 and I miss owning one.

My reasons to keep the 16610
- I'm a chronic watch flipper and this 16610 example is amazing and I believe if I sell it, I'll never find another one.
- I want a watch as a daily driver and with the 16610 being less expensive it doesn't really bother me to scratch it as it would a watch that costs $8,500
- It's closer to that sweet bond watch. Thin case and classic look. It was the watch worn in "License to Kill" (without date)
- Being that I have a problem with flipping, I really believe that the 16610 will gain in value. I bought and sold a GMT for that reason and did really well.

What do you guys think?

I want the 116610 but I don't know if it's worth it.

Good news! For daily wear you can't go wrong with either one.

I personally prefer the 116610 with its beefier case and glidelock bracelet.

Here's a simple test that works pretty well...

Get a coin, and assign heads or tails to each watch.

Flip the coin...

If you have even a brief flash of joy at the outcome, buy that one, if that flash is regret, buy the other.

In the end, it's up to YOU. 😉

Only you can answer that

Lock yourself in a dark room, avoid alcoholic libation and suggest to stay away from watch forums

To me the answer seems obvious, but you need to make the decison yourself

/\ I will lock myself into a small room and think this one over as suggested but while wearing a 16610 /\

One more point I forgot to mention a plus and minus.
The 116610 is so perfect I believe it's a sin to put it on a strap. Some photos when people do this just make me to uncomfortable whereas the 16610 on a nato or vintage strap looks fantastic.

Does the 16610 come with box and papers? If it did then I can understand the collectible aspect.

But overall it's not really a rare watch to find even in good condition as it was made from 1987 to 2010. Of course during the run some changes include a change from tritium to luminova to super luminova, lug holes to no lug holes, and an engraved rehault.

Personally I would go for a 116610 because I like the larger wrist presence and the glidelock bracelet and the maxi Chroma Light lume plots.

Yes true. I still wear my 116610 on a Nato occasionally but the wide lugs don't quite compliment the look. Gotta say though, although I'm a huge Nato buff, the current Rolex bracelets have really converted me. Fantastically engineered, comfortable and asthetically well suited to current Sub and the matt version on the OP39.

There are loads of each around. I’d just make the decision based on which you like best. Personally I prefer the more classic proportions of the 5 digit, but the advances with bracelet and ceramic make the 6 digit a great daily.

Here are the photos. Love the AR coating!

Two close ups the one has the reflection of the TV! looks like AR coating. Thought I'd post that for anyone not reading all the text.

Really like having a subC again. The 16610 has a certain beauty to it that can not be described in words. The little time I spent with that watch especially since I traveled with it will always be remembered.

Like Bond in that photo, I wanted a tough watch and since this 116610 is brand new I'm more comfortable being able to submerge it.
Also the clasp is amazing.

The two are completely different watches.
The 116610 is thicker and it does feel more secure on my wrist.
The size of the 16610 is much nicer. Being a little bit smaller is perfect and it shines nicely.

If Rolex made two models, A bigger and slimmer it would be really nice.
I guess that's why we have a subc and a deep sea.

Thanks again for all the opinions.

A nice Sub, no doubt. Now tell us were you got one with AR coating 😀. They usually come without.

It's not. It's a reflection from the TV. Sorry for the deception.

Just a phase, you will get the one you want then flip it again to get a new/different watch. We all go through these phases, like it will be our last watch.
In that said, get the new 6 digit and see if you can resist getting the 5 digit.

Old model is fine in shape but the 116610LN is superior function over form.

Ceramic bezel (8x+ harder than stainless steel/aluminum, no UV color fading, no corrosion), solid links on the bracelet, perfectly adjustable Glidelock clasp.

These three alone are a huge upgrade in my opinion. Perfect watch, missing perhaps only a ceramic dial to age even better.

I like the case shape of the 5 digit but to me at least it's totally not worth missing the technical upgrades of the 6 digit.
