Dies anyone have a side by side comparison of the Seiko SPB077/79/87/97 against a standard SKX009?

I love my SKX but want something a step up (e.g. hand winding, better finish to the bezel edging etc). I've been looking at the SPB087 and 097 (blue & red and orange & grey versions) but I'm concerned they'll be too large at 44mm.

    Any thoughts??

Here's a random pic of the 097 (from Fratello) along with one of my SKX.

Adding this into the mix;) At 44mm I think it wears a bit smaller. And this is fantastic watch!

I can only suggest You go to your closest Kohl’s or Macy’s to try a turtle, same size I believe. It will definitely give you an idea of how a 44mm watch looks on your wrist, on me personally 41mm is the biggest I can go.

The turtle is way too big for my wrist

I'm not in the states so can't go to a Maceys etc but I don't believe a Turtle (which I've tried on previously) would be an accurate substitute.

The case diameters are pretty much the same but the Turtles case shape seems to make it appear wider and it's 1mm thicker.

Much more importantly, the lug to lug on the SPB087 is 51mm, which is more than the 48mm on the Turtle and much more than the 46mm on the SKX and it's this that I think may cause an issue.

Here is a SKX on my wrist, so you can kind of compare. But like @BillLundberg said, you should try a turtle. Once I got my first turtle, SKX got no wrist time and I ended up selling it)

Had a skx007, sold it. Just bought a spb077, loving it on a seiko jubilee! Contrary to what the theoretical 44mm makes us believe, they roughly have the same volume, the spb being more comfy because of the shape. The spb bezel even look smaller because the insert is narrower.

Search on youtube, toxicnatos skx007 spb077, a guy has a video comparing them, it is an eye opener.

    edit:

Bottom line : the spb wears like the skx.

Excellent! That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

I may well look into one of these shortly...

@S.H. does the jubilee from the SKX fit the SBP077?

SKX013, yes (20mm lugs), with regular fat Seiko bars. Easy to remove because the lugs are drilled through. If you want I can take some pictures of mine to show how it looks.

Ah of course. I've got a Seiko jubilee on my SKX007 so I was wondering if that would work, but I'm completely forgetting the 007 has 22mm lugs.

I'd be interested in a pic of yours @S.H.

I own the SPB077 and wear it quite frequently. It wears quite a bit smaller than one would expect due to its case and lug design. The bracelet is better than other Seiko bracelets I've worn. Mine also keeps great time, usually gaining about 5 to 10 seconds a day.

My gripes with the SPB077 are that the bezel has some play in it, and the date wheel doesn't always center exactly.

I personally like the 013 more. Still chunky, but nicer proportions for me and better seconds hand

I did not even resize the stock bracelet... I may just sell it someday. The jubilee fits well imho, and it gives the watch a vintage vibe; it is also comfy and much lighter.

Looks good - I do like the Seiko jubilee.
You can definitely tell the difference in quality between the SPB and the SKX. Finishing, bezel action, crown mechanism - all a class above.

Indeed, the SPB externals are in another league. A bit more than twice the price (had mine at 30% off for a special sale at the nearest Seiko boutique) but worth it. I think the SPB is some kind of sleeper in their current lineup: the black one is not flashy at all, it is wrongly advertised as 44mm, that is not helping. But it makes much more sense to me than an Oris diver priced at around 2k...

I also love the fact that they did not really copy anything else, they did their thing quietly: no fauxtina, no fake Rolex.

You're right, 44mm is a bit misleading. Feels much more like 40-42mm.
